That's a game changer. When the city owns the infrastructure, they can offer franchises to any and all comers that want to rent some of the fiber conductors. That means you can have competing cable and phone companies was well as Internet providers that are not tied to phone or TV companies.
South Charleston has most of the fiber optic cable in the ground.
It seems like anything involving government moves at a snails pace. If they can put fiber throughout the city, hopefully they open things up for residents.
