I do agree, and perhaps the real story is that a larger acreage was purchased and subdivided. I don't know when the Friday's actually opened.

According to property tax records, the restaurant was constructed in 1982.

According to a new Madison planning commission report, two Crossroads IGA stores are coming to the corner of Wall Triana and Gilespie, and the corner of Mill and County Line.

Anyone heard of this chain? At first glance it appears to just be a slightly upscale gas station convenience store, but one of them is in walking distance for me so I hope I'm wrong!

I local grocery store I once worked for years ago used IGA as their generic product. Other than that, no.

The description doesn't include anything about being a gas station. It sounds closer to a Neighborhood Market.

IGA Family Stores

IGA Family Stores
There is an attached gas station, but it does sound better than I first feared

Crossroads IGA is a unique hybrid conventional grocery store and convenience store. Crossroads meets the secondary shopping needs of consumers while offering value and product selection equivalent to a conventional grocery store. Theses stores feature a full line of fresh meat and produce as well as take home meal options. All locations also house a quick serve restaurant.
If I can walk down the street and get some extra hamburgers while the grill is still hot, I'll call it a win.

Why would a Kentucky chain decide to compete in this market?

Interesting, I shopped at an IGA Grocery store once many years ago during a visit to Cherokee, NC.
