Americans are compassionate, but we demand certain standards for immigrants, for the good of OUR country, not for the immigrants. They must have skills to contribute and a desire to become Americans.

The President is concentrating on illegals who have committed crimes, as he should.

How would you feel, if you were trying to get your family to America from another country by following the rules? It is a slap in the face to those people to just say, sure, the unlawful can stay for free, and those other lawful saps can just twist in the wind.

It's funny you should mention the Somali population. If you spent a few days here you'd realize that they drive close to all the taxis in the city (Uber included). But if you venture into a Somali restaurant here you'll find there are Spanish speaking Latinos working in the kitchen.

All of the restaurants in California have Mexicans working the in kitchens, Albanian food to Zimbabwe.

So...are you trying to make an argument that only illegal Hispanics will work BOH restaurant jobs? If you are, then you are very very wrong about that.

Once again, even in immigrant-heavy cities you will see Americans cleaning hotel rooms and working BOH restaurant jobs.

And, once again, if a restaurant depends on illegals either as employees or as customers, it's a diseased business and needs to die. Period.

Nope, just stating fact. I didn't go back there and ask each one individually if they were authorized to work in the US. It's possible some were documented. Most typically aren't though.

Doesn't matter, there are plenty of people to replace those jobs done by illegals. The market, wage and working conditions will adjust accordingly. The other factors: a lot of illegals are working "legally" with stolen identifications.

You keep saying this and I don't know if you actually believe this or if it's wishful thinking. The influx of immigrant laborers in the US was a direct cause of the market "correcting itself" on a global stage. The US had a ton of demand for low pay/low-skill workers and Mexico and other developing nations had an over-abundance of said workers.

People here constantly say that they only want highly educated and highly skilled immigrants, when in reality those are the ones taking our good jobs....not Manuel the dishwasher. The real solution here is that we need to better educate our current populace to rebuild a highly skilled workforce that can compete on an international stage. Then we can continue the legacy of being open armed to the immigrant low-skilled workers to fill those jobs that don't (and will never, let's not kid ourselves) pay livable wages. Their children will typically break that mold by getting a solid American education and upbringing and will join the middle class.

Here's a fact for you. With the below replacement birthrate in this country, as well as the retiring baby boomers, the only way we could possibly meet our growing labor demand is with immigrants.

If that is truly how you believe then the solution is simple. Increase funding to USCIS to accelerate processing times (and streamline processes while you're at it) and offer a visa for your Manuel the dishwashers of the world as they currently have no possible way of working here legally, outside of marrying a gringa.
