I'd go to Gary Indiana before I'd go to Alaska.

I'd go to Alaska before I would go to Gary, Indiana. Or New york and D.C. The time to go to Alaska is in the summer, however brief it is.

I hate football, but it is actually not as obnoxious and annoying as soccer. Of course by the time the superbowl rolls through Phoenix I may think differently.

So you do like the Superbowl though? Just not football in general?

If you worry about being caught up in an earthquake while visiting California, I'd worry more about being caught up in one in Alaska. The biggest earthquake ever registered in North America occurred in Alaska in 1964, a whopper 9.2.

I've noticed, the bigger quakes tend to occur closer to the North or South Poles. Southern Chile, another example.

I took my mother up there 10 years ago, and we both wanted to see Mt. McKinley. Once there, I was told there's only a 1/3rd chance you'll see it, as oftentimes, it's shrouded in clouds. And, lingering around Fairbanks for 2 days, no luck in seeing it! So it was off to Valdez from there, which was devastated by the accompanying tsunami due to the 1964 quake, with 40 foot high waves. And, every building in that city is dated from 1964.

That's a shame you feel that way about the beautiful game Elle. I watched the USA v Belgium match. Just a great game of football.......

Earthquakes don't bother me. I lived in California for most of my life, experienced many of them. What does bother me are giant roaches that get in the house. My husband was taking the trash out earlier tonight and one somehow got in. Can't find the stupid thing, so I went upstairs, would not stay downstairs with it there. I hate those things the most of all bugs on earth. I would rather experience earthquake after earthquake than have one of those ugly bugs loose in the house. I bet Alaska doesn't have them. But their mosquitoes are probably as big as pit bulls.

Isn't any sport you don't enjoy pretty easy to avoid? Don't watch it on TV, don't listen to sports radio, don't read about it online or in a real newspaper (if you stil get a real newspaper! )

You will be able to do pretty much the same thing when the Super Bowl comes to Phoenix in 2015, adding local news stations to the list of things to avoid or ration.
