Once upon a time America was the land where foreigners came to start a new life. Many came, worked hard and their kids were Americans and their grandchildren usually didn't speak their native tongue. Back then there were all kinds of jobs and opportunities.

Now, according to most stats most legal immigrants (except visa workers)are unskilled and many are on welfare. Many bring a way of life that is offensive to American morals, such as female circumcision. Illegals of course are mostly unskilled.

Simply put we can't afford this new wave of immigrants. I don't want to pay more in taxes to support them. I don't want to compete with the skilled immigrants for the same jobs.

So let's be nice to each other. We're all in this one together until the big off-ramp in the sky!
Im in favor of it ... provided that the United States controls this confederation. A sort of super-nation under US sovereignty that would share a common citizenship, common market, common currency, and a common military. Of course, you (British Columbia) would essentially become a state of the US.

Um, those who supposedly kicked others off the land are all dead now so what's with the "you"? It's already been explained to you why we cannot increase our legal immigration numbers at this time. You want to legalize millions of poor, uneducated, unskilled illegals who are and would be a burden to our society rather than deporting them as our laws stated. That makes no sense at all.

I've had enough of you. Goodbye and have a nice life.

You don't think we can expand legal immigration, but that's purely your opinion. Legal immigration could be increased and certainly done in conjunction to getting the illegal side under control. It's simple math that it could be head count neutral but you certainly couldn't conceive of it.

Also birth rates in the US are and have been dropping, increasing legal immigration not only documents said folks, increases opportunity to collect revenue and have some tracking capability it also helps to offset the birth rate decline. You keep repeating the poor, unskilled whatever but that's not what has to happen with an increase in legal immigration as you can be selective in the legal process unlike the illegal one.

Just incase some might be unaware the US birth rate has fallen to 1.86 births per woman, the lowest rate since the mid 80s. That's well below the replacement rate of approx 2.1 births per woman that would keep the population from falling. Teen births in 2013 were the lowest ever recorded in the US which has account for a large portion of the drop, which has it's ups and downsides. The downside is the replacement factor

Our government knows that it has to keep the economic Ponzi scheme going long enough to last long past the point that they're out of office.
The cheap labor that immigration supplies has been ingrained into the way of life in our culture.
Anyone with an inkling of understanding about math and accounting can see that one day there will be a day of economic reckoning as inflation creates a monster that no one can tame.

Can you put some math behind your reckoning scenario?

Also I don't think it's any politician that has driven the need for low cost labor but rather the consumers. Consumers vote with their pocketbook and ultimately are the decision makers for a business

I sponsored my ex-husband through the process; it took 14 months in 2005-2006. It cost about $3,000 out of pocket for fees and associated expenses (including travel and hotels). It was done as a direct consular file at the US Embassy in London, so it may not be an accurate indication of expense/processing times. Since we didn't live in London and didn't know anyone who did (who had space to accomodate us), we had to stay in hotels. If your interview is in the same city as you are, you won't have that expense.

We did not use a lawyer.

We have a White House surrounded by a huge fence and if crossed illegally you will be tossed in jail....maybe fined or spend time in jail.

Now we have a country that is surrounded by water....fence in places and an invisible line that is NOT to be crossed illegally but if you do the latter, you will be lent a helping hand...given food...clothing... medical needs....place to bed down and some money to tie things over for a while.

As for future votes needed or desired by the Dem party that would be 5-10 yrs or more down the line if and that is a HUGE if....if they become US Citizens or for that matter a desire to become one.

Reality is that they have been told of a FREE ticket when they cross the border.

As for contributing to the SS system....forget it as with a huge family of kids they will hardly ever pay in very much if anything at all.

Not trying to sound negative but the facts are there.
