I'm not willing to give up a full sized laptop for a smart phone. Again, it is easy for me to go without things I've never had, and hard for me to go without things I've always had.

My boss has what we fondly call the "potato fone" with only a voice and text plan. No multi media whatsoever. He can't text or receive pics or group texts. You are not alone, many young people I know (early-mid twenties) have the most basic cell phones.

Take heed my Boomers, this is not the way to go.

Get a "smartphone" - all banking is going that way.

I realize change is hard; not thetered to phone, but, in the event there is a strange and strong, weird vibe? I can call.

Plus, you want to be found in the event of an occurrence.

I'm not a boomer, I just think that data plans are too expensive. If a bank was going to allow transactions only by smartphone, I'll find a new bank, unless they are willing to pay for my data plan.

I use a basic phone with no data plan (just voice, text, and picture messages). The monthly charges for the data plan are more than I am willing to spend. The carrier that I use has the best voice coverage in my area, and I don't want to give that up.

I realize that I am in the minority, but I consider it to be a luxury that I do not need. I do not consider it to be a necessity. I find it very easy to go without things that I have never had (such as a smart phone and data plan). But I find it very difficult to go without things that I have always had.
A lot of people have smart phones because they would be embarrassed to whip out their flip phone in public or in front of friends.

I have a smart phone because I need it for work e-mails. Otherwise, for the most part it is a total waste of money. I would rather have a digital camera (pay for it once) and a GPS (now built into cars). I could care less about Instagram and Twitter and all those other sites. I can wait until I get home to look at Facebook. I mean what App do I have to have at my fingertips all the time?

On another note, my cousin called my house phone the other day from her house phone. Her voice was so crystal clear she might as well have been standing right behind me. Hadn't had a house phone to house phone call in a long time, and it was a pleasure.

All cellphones suck.

Actually, there is one good App - Flashlight. Good for reading menus in dark restaurants.

I'm not easily embarrassed. If someone is going to make fun of me because of my phone, then they are not worth my time.

Then your employer should have to pay for it, in my opinion.

No one in my household has one, including the millenials. We're on a tight budget and this is a nonessential for us. In our prehistoric cave, we have maps and we can all practice the ancient art of map-reading very well.
