If someone doesn't want to hang out with me because I don't have a smart phone, then they are not my true friend, and they are not worth my time.
Chin up, it's only a forum. You're entitled to feel exactly as you like; there's strength in numbers, we know that. I never fight with people I can't see. Words are sometimes so harsh.
I would also love a Porshe, but cannot afford the upkeep. Oil changes? $90 bucks. :-)

No what you said was "Smart phones are not essential, given that I and several other posters are able to get by without them." You believe that because your priorities don't require it then others shouldn't require it.

I was in the same boat as you until recently and everybody gave me a hard time about my pitiful little beat up and way out dated cell phone from boost mobile. I went out on black Friday and took advantage of the sales to get myself a new updated phone back in november. I finally gave in to the smart phone business and got myself the LG2 from the sprint store. I must admit I love it and just being able to play music on the youtube app and send and receive high quality pictures is worth it so far. I never thought I would give in to it but I absolutely do not regret it.
But the Black Friday sale doesn't save you any money on the data plan.
I don't think Verizon offers a pre-paid data plan? If they do, what is the cheapest one that they offer?
To hell with verizon! I'm referring to tracfone. They have TMFL on several phone which require NO data plan AND they offer androids for the people who want em'

Verizon has the best voice service where I live, so I'm not going to give it up just to say that I have a smartphone in order to appease some of the posters here.

Dont but when you are in a life or death situation it helps to have one. It might even be the difference btwn life & death. There is a website of "50 life saving apps" FIFTY. No one is forcing you to get a smart phone but the pros really do outweigh the cons and life saving apps in and of themselves are the reason everyone should have one.
Things that can save my life are not something I want to pass up.
