As I have read posts obtaining to Massapequa, I found many that insinuated the down side of some areas in Massapequa that it was near Amityville, or borders it.
To enlighten the negatives:
I grew up in Massapequa. Now I live in the village of South Amityville and love every bit of this town (ah, hamlet ) On the behalf of Amityville, we have a very quaint , beautiful village. We have beautiful tree lined streets with turn of the century homes, all impeccably kept , one nicer than the other. ( We have an old Victorian and love every inch of our home, nothing can compare to owning a piece of history) We have space between our homes, large yards, not cramped on top of our neighbors. Some have an acre plus lot , most are ½ plus. We have a private beach for residents that offer everything from swimming lessons, arts and crafts, archery , to sailing for our children. Not to mention a yacht club, ( which many Massapequa residents have joined) along with a sailing yacht club for kids and their family‘s. We have a private PD which is outstanding with unbeatable response time . They keep our village safe and we do not have high crime here, next to none. Getting to our highway dept. , you will never find garbage in the streets, broken tree branches or dead animals as they comb the streets all day keeping them immaculately clean. The holidays are gorgeous here, especially Christmas time. Many come for the home tour from all areas and wait on lines for hours just to get in and see beautifully decorated old homes.
The down side here is the school district. It is a shame for sure. 99.9% of residents who live in this area send their kids to private/catholic schools. The cost of two children from N-12 runs in the area of 115K and up depending on which schools they chose. Some of the property taxes here are over 20K..I would not call this a poor, shabby town , many people here are professionals and easily afford this. It’s so funny, when I meet people here and there from Massapequa, I have been told they would love to live here “once” their kids graduate HS…. It’s easy to see these people won’t or can’t pay for catholic or private, to us.. it’s a part of life and do prefer it to public school. Yes, we do have undesirable surrounding areas,( but as I have found in most LI towns, we all do.) This is what people think of when they talk about “Amityville“. I can go on, but this will be pages long . For those who do not know this area, please take a ride around, I am sure you will enjoy your visit. Amityville means friendly village. .welcome!

I'd love to live in Amityville. It's a beautiful place.I'm shocked that people would talk bad about it. Hey, you forgot to mention the Amityville Horror house! :-)

Thanks for speaking up for my hometown. Born and raised there. I visited it a few years ago and was amazed how nice it still is. If I could move back there, I would!
Yeah, but those are in North Amityville, not in the village itself.
true but the thread is called "amityville bashers"...not "village of amityville" bashers. if the OP is gonna talk about the positives of a-ville, she should also mention the negatives.
Agreed....North Amityville is kinda bad but its definitely not the worst...but I will say that N Amityville and Amityville Village/Harbor are worlds apart.

The point is people talk about Amityville in a negitive way, there are good and bad in almost every town..I am pointing out not all of amityville is
undesirable ..that’s all.. I am proud of my town and would not like it to be stereotyped for what surrounds us. Unfortunately, we usually do get a bad rap... There really is not any negitives here, but I did point out the SD was not good. By that, I am not speaking of race, I am talking academically.

But wouldn't you say the trailer parks have something to do with that? It's not about race, you're right, but fact is, many people in amityville are poor (as well as rich/middle class etc)...and the poor can have a negative effect on a school district...ex. hempstead, freeport, etc.
"there really aren't any negatives?"...sorry but a trailer park is a pretty biiiiig negative. i would not live in a town that had trailer parks in it...even if I was living in the "good part"...but that's me.
