I'm sorry but "Geezus" does not constitute a rebuttal of Ann Coulter's work.

At the same time, surveys repeatedly show that people in Sweden and in other Western countries have a perception that violence is actually increasing. Perceptions of increased violence have been linked to the number of immigrants in Sweden. Nonetheless, research shows that there is no evidence to indicate that immigration leads to increased crime. Despite the fact that the number of immigrants in Sweden has increased since the 1990s, exposure to violent crimes has declined."

Did you read that full article? Murders are up, they're too scared to even post the rape stats and there's 61 dangerous areas in Sweden people are scared to go to. Typical swedes white washing everything to justify there open borders

In Los Angeles, provided you are capable of showing up on time, there are a number of low level jobs you can literally get hired for the next day. Subway, Security Officer, etc. Many pay more(though not much more) than minimum wage.

I would do anything I could to avoid being homeless, including taking jobs that are beneath me.

I say this because ANYONE with a rational mindset would do the same. Most would be smart enough to move to an area of the country where these low level jobs pay MORE than in LA and actually will provide a true lower middle class lifestyle.

Point being nearly every homeless person in LA is an addict, suffers from mental illness, or both. Poofing jobs up from a federal program will not do ANYTHING to lower the homeless population.
Yep I agree. I'm not a negative person but I've seen Skid Row and other homeless encampments in and around LA to realize this: People can yell out the "pull yourselves up from your bootstraps" talk or recite a positive social media quote/meme, or even wonder about housing for the homeless til their face turns blue... the fact is at least 80% of the homeless are done in life. They are DONE and have CHECKED OUT! Skid Row in DTLA is the last stop for alot of homeless. Their families have given up on them, the state and country has given up on them.. the drugs, alcohol, mental illness, etc has them in a zombie like state. This is 20 levels beyond being lazy or whatever you want to label it. This is the bottom barrel basement pit of capitalism. You have the 1% at the top of the chain and this is the bottomless pit of that chain.

Most of the homeless are un-hire-able. Of course you have a nice percentage that simply need about six months of housing/help and they can somehow get back on their feet and back into society but that's a small percentage imo. For the majority their demons are way too deep to overcome with some sort of government assistance or program. Hell about 8 years ago I had a unemployment spell for about a year. I burned through my savings but I still had my apartment, car, etc. Finally got another job but,as anyone who's gone through this will tell you, it was a fight to get back comfortable again. I did it but it was no walk in the park by any means. But most of the homeless are ten times worse off but with drug, alcohol, mental illness problems to top it off.

I don't see a solution to this for each individual homeless person honestly. For DTLA the solution is to move Skid Row to the outskirts which I do believe will happen eventually because too much development and money is at stake to have these guys in the mist of moneyed individuals buying million dollar lofts and condos. Again not to be a Debbie Downer but this economy and system isn't meant for "these types" to make it back. People should ask themselves on how well you personally are doing in life and you'll probably have your answer to this homeless problem. Its the ying and the yang

Outside of the obvious apartment / condo complexes and some homes that are gated, most neighborhoods in Porter Ranch are. I'm sure there are other areas in that part of the Valley that have gates too. There are also some very tiny gated neighborhoods in the hills.

The part of Toluca Lake right by the lake. Not sure when it became gated.

The oldest remaining gated community in L.A. is Fremont Place. I read on a Mar Vista history website that Ocean Park Heights was the first gated community in the L.A. area with gates on Grand View and Venice but I can't remember that area ever being gated. There are some beautiful old mansions of a sort that is extremely rare elsewhere in the WLA area on Grand View left over from that era.

Rosie SD love your posts on this subject as well as everyone else. You are correct they push them out and they go to another neighborhood. It's terribly sad what is happening but I am pretty sure that many are not even from California.

Our Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas has been involved with this but I actually think they don't even know how to handle. I heard they were going to pay people to build Nanny Flats on to their homes and have homeless move it. Now will they check these folks? I mean how do we know anything about these people ? Could be substance abusers - do we just all take a chance? Have illnesses .... What happened to all the money they were going to collect from the taxpayers in L.A. County for the homeless?

I think you start with single moms- kids and go from there. Get the people who are out of work or lost their homes and get them off the street first. Then work with the mentally ill and substance abusers. THis is where there will be a huge problem. If they are out of state folks - put them on buses and send them back to their home state. Just have to weed through it all.

It's sad and terrible what is happening but Hepatitis A is nothing to mess with. I got that back in 1970 and was violently ill in the hospital. Bad stuff.

Problem is we have a Mayor that thinks everyone should be able to live in L.A . Whether they are drug addicts , ex cons , illegal alien etc . He wants us to pay the cost though . Both monetary and other costs .
Living around tent citys is not and homeless poop and pee and homeless exposing themselves or doing drugs in front of your kids is not what most consider a high quality of life but that's become reality too often in L.A
