I have limited experience commuting in that area outside of the 405, but knowing how bad the freeway can be in the morning, your probably best off using PCH/Sepulveda.

There are no freeways in PV, and the people who live there prefer to keep it that way. The commute from RPV to ES would be 30 minutes (or less) depending on the time you travel, and the exact locations within those cities.

If you give me major intersections from each city I can give you preferred routes.

I used to live in RPV and loved it...

If you provide cross streets that will really help with the advice that I give to you.

But you will be doing street driving only for your commute...taking the 405 wouldn't make sense at all.

It just depends on what part of RPV you will be coming from, and what part of El Segundo you are going to. It could take you 10-15 minutes to just get down the hill from RPV. and another 10-15 minutes to get to one of the two closest freeways, the 110 or 405. From there it shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes to get to El Segundo.

Between Palos Verdes Drive East and North Western Avenue, near Miraleste drive. El Segundo would be around the 500 block of Center Street.

Thanks everyone for your quick posts! Am I assuming correctly that the time quotes you're giving me would be "around" rush hour? Going in to the office around 6:30 am or 7:00 am and returning home around 5:30 pm or so?

You have a variety of choices to try, but none of them will give you a 30 min commute in rush hour so you have to pick your poison. You can take the 110 to the 405 and exit at El Segundo Blvd. On a normal (not rush hour) drive, that will take you about 30 mins but could as much as double during rush.

Option 2 is to follow western all the way down to PCH. You can then try Crenshaw Blvd or Hawthorne Blvd to El Segundo Blvd, or you can simply take the PCH route, but that's probably a pretty nasty trip.

If you leave home at 6:30am, you're on the earlier side of rush hour, so any of those routes may not be too bad. You're out of luck on your trip back home though. There's no escaping the traffic.

My guesses on Average:

To Work: 45mins
From Work: 1hr

Finally, somebody who doesn't have unrealistic goals! PV and El Segundo are close enough you shouldn't have any problems at all. 6:30 is a bit earlier than most of the traffic but many leave that early to avoid traffic which of course causes more traffic. But more people are lazy so you'll avoid the worst of it that early. 5:30 on the other hand is right in the middle of the peak traffic but you'll probably be more relaxed and not in such a hurry because you're headed home.

Be advised however that if you have plans after work, the farther you want to drive the worse the traffic will be, and the South Bay will face stiff traffic no matter where else in the city you want to go after work. Even worse the freeway traffic can often last until late at night. There is traffic on the 405 in BOTH DIRECTIONS since people commute every which way in that area. In outlying parts of the city the traffic is usually inbound but in PV you're surrounded by the city.

Commuting to work and home you should be good to go. Driving anywhere else you'll face stiff traffic during peak hours.
