Our nation is unraveling before our eyes because of these people, but they are not the majority. The majority doesn’t subscribe to their radicalism, even within the party they hijacked. They are just a loud minority voice. The recourse is to not lay down to these people.

This has something to do with why many of us are not fans of police unions. You couldn't sound more stupid than this guy.

Chicago police union chief who once compared vaccine mandates to Nazi Germany tells officers to defy the city's requirement

John Catanzara, president of the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7, addresses attendees as Mayor Lori Lightfoot watches during the unveiling of names for five Chicago police officers at the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park in September. Four of the officers died of COVID-19 symptoms in 2020, and Officer Ella French was fatally shot on Aug. 7, during a traffic stop while on patrol.

The head of the Chicago police officers union has urged members to defy the city's COVID-19 vaccine requirement.

In a video first reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara told members not to enter information in the city's vaccine portal ahead of a deadline on Friday.

"I do not believe the city has the authority to mandate that to anybody, let alone that information about your medical history," he said.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot's administration has ordered all city workers to submit COVID-19 vaccine information into an online portal by Friday.

Those who aren't vaccinated will either have to be tested for COVID-19 semiweekly or be placed on unpaid leave, the Associated Press reported.

This isn't the first time Catanzara has spoken out about vaccines - in August he compared vaccine mandates to something that would happen in Nazi Germany.

We agree (!!) again … but just on the bolded. The problem isn’t the *these people* you identify, though … it’s damn near everyone. Because? Because homo sapiens, for all our cognitive abilities, can’t rise above our basic - reptilian-mind - physiological / psychological design limitations. Our phenomenal abilities to reason rationally are submissive to emotional fears and desires. We could use a tad more Star-Trek Spock in our make-up. But, alas, just not there in most folks.

Btw: that “loud minority voice”? … isn’t a minority. But never mind that. Because the level of angry, disruptive, intransigent people (look in your mirror for one example) in total in our current polarized state pretty much guarantees the nation’s collapse as we have known it.

I have heard having social workers and psychologists respond to emotionally disturbed person jobs rather than the police (another brilliant idea). Hey Tulemutte, there may be a job for you. Again, I find it funny the same people who want police to vaccinate so they can effectively do their jobs are the same people who want to defund the police so they can’t as effectively do their jobs. Pretzel logic. It truly requires a low IQ to be a leftist. They are overrun with stupid people. My goodness, you can’t make this up.
Why would I need a job? Anyway, I’m already in contact with an unlimited number of disturbed individuals right here on this forum as a hobby

That said, um, you say you are recently retired from NYC cop career? And you don’t agree from your experience that there are numerous kinds of calls better handled by non-uniformed professionals than the armed enforcement resource you worked as? Accident reports? Lost cats? Lost cat-ladies? Yes, and non-violent, mentally distressed / disordered issues? Burglary reports / investigations after the act? Crime scene / accident scene management after event?

I have had a considerable number of close relationships with career law enforcement who all rolled eyes about the tedium and poor application of armed enforcement to the above list. Besides a close cousin and my best boyhood friend both retired from big city careers, and several lesser friendships of note with cops, I am pretty good friends with a now-retired chief of a very major N.American city department. We talk over the years. Especially the former chief seems to feel utilization of other professionals for certain tasks is a better path. (By the way, as an aside, none of these relationships consider me “socially awkward” as you once mused I must be … lol. )

Here’s a link to a recent story about NYC’s embarkment with such reallocation of resources as funding:
Mental Health Response Teams Yield Better Outcomes Than Police In NYC, Data Shows
https://www.npr.org/2021/07/23/10197...-new-york-city

NYC isn’t the first or only department to turn in this direction.
New York's program is modeled after a successful, decades-old program in Eugene, Ore., known as Crisis Assistance Helping Out On The Streets, or CAHOOTS. Other similar programs have launched in California, Colorado, Georgia and Montana.

In Minneapolis, where police killed Floyd last summer, the city will start sending out civil crisis response teams instead of police to certain mental health calls next month.

I can well agree that the term: *Defund the Police* is a pizz-poor one. It may appeal to clueless left-wing-nuts, but it really doesn’t convey the philosophy behind the concept of reallocation.

Over 70% of Cook County (Chicago) has had at least one vaccination. When you juxtapose that fact against the statement of the head of the FOP in Chicago in which he compares vaccine mandates with "Nazi Germany" you begin to understand the issues police are having with the communities that they police. The reality is the police are simply out of touch with the majority of people in big cities and possibly the rest of the country.

Our public servants should lead by example. A police officer who does not vaccinate is one ****ty example.

yep, no problem at all! well..except for the 10 LAPD Officers who have died of covid, and the 60 NYPD Officers who died of it. In fact, Covid is now the leading cause of death of Police Officers...but according to you, "nothing to see here, run along now"
