In-N-Out is the ultimate hamburger joint. I've never had the courage to order a 4 by 4, but a double double, fries and a strawberry milkshake hits the spot.

Funny that so many here don't like them. Everyone that I have taken there over the years has loved them!

Being from the south and having lived around other regions of the US, I think just about all the restaurants I have been to out here in So Cal are WAY over rated. I have not been anywhere decent out here that I would recommend that anyone MUST or HAS to try.

I will say about In-n-out...yeah, maybe they alittle overrated, but I do like the simplicity of their menu and appreciate the fact that everything is fresh. IMHO...I like Johnny Rockets better...and yes it is a chain. Most everything out here is a chain.

Why is everyone comparing Johnny Rockets to In-N-Out!? They are two different types of burger joints!

I'm gonna compare the common cold to HIV.

This is driving me insane. When I lived in Illinois I really got to like Steak-n-Shake. I liked their Frisco Melt and their chili. Now that I'm back in California I keep getting cravings for it.

Food is pretty regional and I think a lot of the people that don't like In-N-out were not raised in California. When I lived in PA I never particularly liked the food, even the places that were rather popular. It was always very greasy.

Anyhow, In-N-out is fresh. Some people have actually gotten more accustom to eating artificial foods. Taste is subjective, health not so much. Compare the ingredients to McDonalds fries:

"Potatoes, vegetable oil (canola oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, natural beef flavor [wheat and milk derivatives]*, citric acid [preservative]), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain color), salt. Prepared in vegetable oil (Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness). Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent."

to In-N-Out:

Potatoes. Prepared in vegetable oil.

I don't think its over-rated, its one of only of the few chains where you can get fresh food for really cheap. Not to mention the customer service is good and the places are always clean.

The In-N-Out on Inglewood Ave is awesome. Service is slow but the food is worth the wait ;o)

Their french fries are just awful. Fresh, but soggy & oily. McD's is 10000x better. They should seriously fry their potatoes twice like Belgian fries.
