Well they obviously can't recount but it's going to be hard to argue about how much is going to be factor in especially with students and work from home. Just like the road program of chapter 90 is based on employment. If someone works remotely then it means that there's going to be some odd changes if remote work means less highway funds.

The number you're using includes white hispanics. THats why it says 61.6% white alone and not the widely recognized 57.8%. Far far far fewer Hispanics identified as white this year than in year past. Far fewer.

States where there are alot of Hispanics who used to check white show large decreases

California was 40.1% white in 2010 its 34.7% now. (-5.4%)
New Mexico was 40.5% white its now 36.5% (-4.0%)

^Both are below national averages.

https://thehill.com/homenews/state-w...-census-report

"Washington state saw its white population shrink by the largest margin of any state, down 8.7 percentage points over the last decade. Massachusetts, Nevada and Connecticut all saw declines of more than 8 percentage points as they become more diverse."

. BUT non-Hispanic white population shrinking was highest in Washington Nevada and Southern New England. The difference between SNE and Washington/Nevada is that Washington and Nevada are still gaining white people overall. THey just gainedsoo many more minorities. CT and MA gained minorities but combined they llost over 650k white residents.
Got it.

I'm honestly surprised Somerville did not grow faster. 75.8k to 81.1k was pretty low. I was expecting 84-88k.

I would think the density in existing housing units shrank as prices spiked.

I have to wonder retroactively as to what specifically is attracting people. If the birthrate was nearly zero since 2008. If this is based on domestic migration or immigrants. If it's domestic it is more sustainable due to covid. the tip of cape code has exploded although it isn't much in the news. Yes it's still low but 20%+ in a decade anywhere is huge

Redistricting is going to get ugly.

Those are mostly New Yorkers here temporarily. They will go back if/when their jobs demand them back.

Yup. Places where families of 4 or 5 were living are being bought up by single people and couples. Even when you add new housing units (as Somerville is doing at a rapid pace) the rate of growth is still pretty low.
