The guy was released but has to stay home with a GPS monitor:

It's also being said that no one hear any racial slurs other than the victims.

FWIW I don't have an American flag or any flag hanging from my house.
There is actually a rule for flying a foreign national flag...you do need to fly the US flag with it, on which side I forget....Rainbow flags are cute too.

It is another if nothing really happened but Ngo was just too upset at seeing a speedy driver driving to fast and wanted to call him out, an unnecessary involvement indeed. My proposition on the other hand is that Ngo, one of his family members, or another pedestrian close by nearly got run over by Sullivan which was why he stopped to berate the older man. Instead of issuing a "mea culpa, I'm sorry I am in a hurry, I'll drive slower next time" or perhaps what MSRB311 suggested, just a crude but ordinary "%&@ you!" and walk away, the man instead took to hurling racial epithets and threatening the family. It was like he was trying to worsen the situation and pick a fight when he did not have to. That was why Ngo and Thiem stayed behind to snap photos of his car, because Sullivan threatened to kill them. In hindsight, sticking around snapping photos and waiting for the cops to come may not have been the safest and wisest thing to do given one does not know who they're dealing with and I give Ngo and Thien credit for being brave enough to do that, but again this is 2022, not 1982. Asian Americans are not going to stand by letting others make death threats to them on account of their ethnicity and more are willing to report such activity.
Basically a stinky cancel culture old fart who thinks he can verbalize the crap that continuously erupt in his demented hateful mind right out in the open on the streets of Quincy and right in a public place like the post office. Yeah, he's definitely cancelled and he needs to end his days confined and not be a danger to the public.

He should be punished for his behavior, not what he "verbalizes." This isn't, yet, a totalitarian state. Now, if he's saying something in conjunction with his acts that tend to show an intent to commit a certain crime, fine. But we don't criminalize words here in the United States. We also leave room for the possibility that someone may be off their mental rocker. Doesn't sound like you leave much room for anything if the person doesn't fit a profile that suits you.

Rules/guidelines, not laws. American flag to the left on its own pole.

Well in a potential hate crime, the bold is HUGE when determining how to prosecute. I do agree that an amount of reverse prejudice has shown it's ugly face on this thread, and while this man may "deserve" to be put away for years I don't see that happening with a 77-year-old guy of (any) health. Assuming he loses his license to drive (and he absolutely should under any circumstance), he's not likely much of a danger to the public. Significantly more threatening people probably get released in this state on a daily basis, we don't like to lock up criminals here.

And that's precisely what I was referring to. However absent the behavior the words, as reprehensible as they are, are not a crime. And they shouldn't be.

What that poster said was uninformed and factually incorrect, yes.

So dragging someone on the hood of your car and then slamming on the brakes to send this person into a construction ditch is ok? an expression of free speech? LOl ok.

On the contrary, to Asian members of the public, he's a very likely danger! Take away his car, and we'll have to worry about what his next weapon's going to be. Maybe there's some way he'll get therapy and not be dangerous, I don't know. The news story says he's living with his daughter, so maybe she can keep him under control.
