And even if they can find someone who will rent to them, they'll need to minimally come up with first month rent and security deposit. And then they likely need to get a car. And then find a job that pays half of what they were making in Boston.

This is no small task for the people on the housing list. And it seems to me that there's a very high likelihood that the ones who could pull this off aren't even going to end up in a better position.

Not to mention leaving their friends and family - who in many cases are helping them.
So what if there was NO affordable housing available? What would they do? They'd have no choice but to move.

Again, moving is not realistic for most. And those who can move probably won't end up in a better position.

They'd do what they are doing now...getting by.

9 families living in a triple decker is not uncommon. An entire family per bedroom.

Seems like your only answers are 'it's not practical and it's not realistic', lol. Take away affordable housing and all the freebies MA gives out and see how real it gets for people.

My mother grew up in ONE apt of a triple decker. There were 3 bedrooms - her parents had one, she shared a room with her sister, her brothers shared a room.

People make choices. I'm sure what your point is really? You make it seem like the state owes these people for the choices they made in life. how about get a better job or get another job? If you have that many people living with you others should be able to step it up.

Yeah. UHaul says their rates are $40+a dollar a mile. No idea how much insurance would be though.

I know one of the posters above single and there's no reason it should be costing 10k to move a few towns over within MA. Apparently moving companies are thriving these days and screwing people.

I got quotes of $3-4K to move a 1-BR condo worth of stuff 10 miles back in 2015. Ended up doing it myself with buddies but we had lots of energy and more free time as it was pre-children.

Now i'm older and have way more crap. I don't even want to know what it would cost. My heavy tools would probably be the brunt of it.

A few years ago I hired movers to take stuff from a house in southern NH to south shore MA and it was around $3K so yeah I think you got ripped off royally on this move. I use Gentle Giant most of the time too and I'm sure there are cheaper companies out there.

I think the 10k includes first, last, security.
