She should specify that then...so we don't all think she got ripped off by movers.

I wasn't thinking rental costs. I was assuming that was just moving fees/truck/hired persons.

1st, last, security, broker's fee, and mover's. All in, about $13-14K, though I wasn't really counting first and last in my head since that will eventually be part of my living expenses.

Why wouldn't you consider those costs as part of moving when considering how expensive it is to move?

Same...I consider 1st, last, security as just part of rent/living expenses.

When you need to come up with all of that, along with moving fees, do you now understand why moving is going to be unrealistic for most if not all of the people on the housing list? Not to mention the difficulty they'll have getting an apartment without a job.

But these people in question don't have the whole first month/last month security deposit situation we're talking about. They are sitting around waiting for affordable housing

You're telling them to move. I'm saying that's not really an option for them.

You really don't know what their options are. I'd be very surprised that of 40k people or however many there are that there are NO other options aside from continuing to stay in a state they can't afford. But of course people will hang on to that dangling carrot.

Your arguing about this makes no sense and you have clearly sided with and made up your mind about the people waiting on affordable housing. I'll even give you the benefit of the doubt and say, ok maybe SOME of them have family here and that's why they want to stay...but there are many people move away from family for jobs so there's that...

Just face it, many of the people are staying because they state will basically give them money to live here. They are unmotivated to do anything else about their situation. Why would they move if it's possible they could get section 8? Instead of them having their own pride, they stay.

I mean it's quite privileged that anyone can say, oh i can't leave because I have family here so...I'm sitting around waiting for free housing now. Not everyone GETS that option and they are forced to move.
