The child who did the shooting is going to need some serious counseling and therapy. Believe me, he may not understand all of it, but he knows that the other little boy is dead and will never be back. He's only 4 but I'm sure he has some understanding of what happened.

Yeah but many kids albeit older have been involved in accidental deaths of which someone is responsible, like a car wreck, hunting accident ,I guess some can move on but others don't...time will tell for this child

True but GrandPa and the town of Jackson, that is where he worked, had a sexual harrassment law suit against them supposedly based on GrandPa's actions Grand Ma worked for the Ocean County prosecutors office so yes they absolutely did the correct thing in turning it over to another county to investigate,

I feel awful for this child. I'm sure after it was over he understood to some degree. I remember when I was about that age I stuck my finger in an electrical socket. Of course I didn't get it beforehand, but 40+ years later I certainly remember it. I think it'll be the same with this kid.

So very sad... certainly will keep them in my prayers.

And as for the gun debate, it will just the same old, same old. Nothing truly changes here, a lot of politicians beat their chests and yell and make statements, but nothing ever really changes.

I would like to pray that the next time a parent, who happens to own a gun, happens to use his or her gun, they remember to LOCK it up when they are done. Far away from their children. It's all about responsibility.

I believe NJ has a law that says firearms need to be secured/locked in places where there are children.

Correct. And that is the issue at hand here. An an arsenal of rifles, shotguns, and handguns, and thousands of rounds of ammunition stored securely in a proper safe that's not accessible to a child is 100% safer than a single loaded handgun kept in the top drawer of a nightstand.

Does anyone know where the family of the boy who accidentally shot the other is now? The news reported that they went into hiding. I can't say I blame them. I hope they at least gave their condolences and apologies to the family.
