I live in Bergen county and take the palisades or rt4 daily. My Ezpass bills are for the gwb almost exclusively. Almost never for turnpike unless I go to newark airport - and that is usually an Uber, or to the beach in the summer.
My sunpass bills for my 3 months in Florida are a lot higher and I am also in Swfl. I use the skyway often and there are plenty of tolls around st Pete’s. That is why I scratch my head.

I could see why there is non stop moves to lower tax states.
I'm okay with it because I rarely use toll roads, just as you don't care about the cost increases on Florida tolls because you rarely use toll roads. I don't see the distinction.

I can see where the tolls add up if you are taking toll roads every day, but most of us don't, so that's why it isn't bothering everyone.

Yes... that...
Additionally, as is apparent so often--with so many of the "I hate NJ" whiners--they don't know what is going on in other states. Somehow, they "know" that NJ is the worst when it comes to anything that they don't like, but as has been obvious on many other occasions, their assumptions are not necessarily based on facts.

Take a look at this list of the most expensive toll roads in The US. Even if you add 3% to the listed NJTPK tolls, the new toll rates on that highway would only equal the current cost per mile of the Central Florida Expressway, and would still be a mere fraction of the cost per mile in some of the so-called "low-cost" states.

Don't tell the powers that be, that we're #11 in the country.

That'll p&ss them off and they'll raise the tolls again.

If you live in a state with no tolls, how are you rated? Number 0? Number 1000?

I would have to drive in a straight line 12 hours before I could hope to encounter a toll booth.

The people that get screwed are the ones that commute to north Jersey from south Jersey, for all the posters that say it doesn't affect them. Try taking a non toll road from, say Lacey Township, to the Lincoln Tunnel. There isn't much choice for other roads, so you're basically stuck using toll roads unless you want to drive about 4 or 5 hours one way.

people in NJ overwhelmingly want higher tolls. my only concern is where is the equity? perhaps NJ should flow the NYC model for subway fares and apply it to tolls. why should someone making minimum wage have to pay the same toll as an investment banker? this can easily be achieved with having the fare amount applied on an account tier level based on your income.

Trust me, The Powers That Be are universally better-informed than the usual crop of "NJ is the worst" whiners who flock to this forum. What I posted was surely new information for that crowd, but I can guarantee that the folks who run the NJTPK Authority are well aware of our ranking vis-à-vis tolls.
