I could make a few comments that might be entertaining. But, I won't. If that ride could be made safely, it would be one of the most popular downhill rides in the country. I don't see how it would be worth the risk at this time. I'm sure it's done. But with limited shoulders and being required to ride with the traffic, I wouldn't advise it. The tunnel would not be pleasant. Besides, they haven't built a run-away ramp for bicycles yet.

I have seen a number of riders on the scenic highway from Cloudcroft to Sunspot and Timberon. That would be a much safer ride and I think prettier views.

It's a very dangerous road for bicyclers, IMO. I posted this in another thread in this forum - "Day Trip .... etc." and am cross posting it here.

Just a word about bicycling in the Cloudcroft area. It's an entirely different experience for off-road bicycling, if you're into the "mountain biking (ATB)" scene. The old railroad bed that runs between the desert and Cloudcroft is a dedicated "rails to trails" project - ongoing. There is plenty of good off-road riding on the old rail bed, as long as you don't try to cross that trestle!! But even the old trestle has now been given a new life with a government grant of over a $million to restore/preserve it (WHY? I don't know!).

And there are plenty of forest trails in the Cloudcroft area that are quite ride-able on an ATB. In fact there is at least one annual Mountain Bike Race event that's gaining in popularity.

As for road biking, the best low-traffic road is the one running between Cloudcroft and Sun Spot. Not flat, by any means, but very ride-able for anyone in good shape.

There are bicyclists that ride from Cloudcroft to Timberon and back but they share the road with the other vehicles. Not much traffic and I would say that is reasonably safe but biking from Cloudcroft to Alamogordo and back is not the smartest idea. I've seen one person do it and thought it was a bit risky.
Too much traffic, sometimes bumper to bumper. There are also people working on the roads. Unless you're a big risktaker, I would stay away from that particular road on a bicycle.

Default Obaman Can

A little chuckle for a Friday afternoon. For those of you who haven't seen it yet. I've seen it few times and it makes me laugh!

Hi everyone.
JDTH, funny video. It does make me laugh.
I'm getting ready to eat a burger from the grill and watch the movie 'Beethovens 3rd' about the St. Bernard.

I just picked up my first dozen Hatch chile peppers. I'll be roasting them in about a half hour. We will be having green chile burgers for dinner tonight.

I prefer avocado on mine.
Do you mix the chiles inside the beef and then cook or put a slice on top of the burger after it's cooked?
I like them with the chiles cooked inside the beef.
