To be fair, I still need to get more rugs and furniture to absorb the sound and it will all come eventually. But I think we've also gotten neighbors knocking/punching through the walls when we have friends over again, within the allowed times (Sat-sun before 12AM), knocking around 9PM...
And we're adults, not college students. Maybe the person that lived here before us was a hermit?

Funny about the Buy Nothing, I was able to join well before I moved. It drove me crazy because there were tons of things I needed but couldn't get because I still hadn't moved.
You can also join the Stuytown Classified. good stuff there too.
Just so that you don't feel the pressure to buy a ton of furniture off the bat.

Ugh, I hope you can find a happy compromise!

BTW, where is the Stuytown Classified? Is it a FB group?

Thanks again!

Yes it's a FB group: Stuytown Classified Unlimited.
Re sound: I hope so too. LOL. Aside from just the 1st 2 weeks it's all been more tolerable. *sigh*

Whoever has been corresponding with you about your documents is most likely your specialist. Did anyone reach out to ask you to send anything additional or make a correction?

I moved last month in September and I love it!
Very quiet, sometimes too quiet and, at least in my building, little tolerance for sound. ON the bright side, I don't think there's anything like this in NYC.
Some advice, sign up for the Buy nothing Page ASAP. Moving is so expensive and you can easily find a lot of things you may need as place holders before while you can recover, settle in and buy what you want. Everything from furniture to kitchen gadgets, utensils, etc.
I've seen dining tables in very good condition, tv consoles, bookshelves. Also, many neighbors leave things on the curb at the bulk disposal in very good condition as well.

I also wanted to give a shoutout to the movers I used this time.
https://www.zenithmoving.com/
They were super supportive, professional, competitive rates and the owner KIKO was very involved the whole time.

Happy to answer any other questions and would love to meet up once you're all settled in.
I read on one of the Stuy Town FB groups that management doesn't want tenants to directly speak with other tenants with noise complaints. Instead they want them routed through their office to avoid conflicts. The office is supposed to send someone over to check if the 80% rug coverage is there etc and try to help resolve the issue.

I have a couple of friends that play piano and practice during the day/early evening and have had a lot of neighbor issues over it. They got some special padding for under/behind the piano to help and their building managers help to navigate the complaints.

Regarding the sounds of music, there has been a lot of discussion about that on one of the Facebook groups. And even though you are rehearsing within normal daylight hours, some of your neighbors will have a beef if the music goes on for hours and hours, and every day. I don't know what your practice schedule is, but you may encounter that attitude.

Rugs, drapes, and furniture definitely help. Even though the walls here are plaster over cinderblock and pretty solid, they tend to conduct sound. I know you plan to put down some rugs. Get padding too. Honestly, there aren't too many professional musicians here in Stuy Town, compared to other neighborhoods, so people may not be used to it.

My daughter just moved into an apartment with vents in the kitchen and bathroom (not Stuy Town), and she's hearing an opera singer!

And yes, as Chloe says, management prefers that neighbors not accost one another over noise. I see the wisdom in that, but many people here are dissatisfied with the the lack of results from management.

I'll second that with a funny story a few months ago for items, I had taken to the Bulk Disposal area.
I had some items that we placed on the Ave C loop disposal and, got VERY lucky to find a space in the same loop. I posted the pics as #curbalert that is done when things appear there. By the time I had parked and started walking to our apartment, I saw a woman with a cart walking with serious intent! I joked to my wife, "she must've saw our post and, coming to get the stuff!" I was joking but, sure enough, that's why she was there walking so fast and, she cleaned out most of what we left!

and Congrats to @Markie as well...
1200mps for $59.99 and they will give you 2 months free. I have RCN for a year already in my current apartment in Queens and it is fine for my needs (streaming and internet browsing)

Thanks! 20th and Ave C. One building over from where my boyfriend lived when I met him and he was going to NYU. I spent most of my time in New York living on 10th and C so this is literally coming home for both of us.

Hello all. I just discovered this message board yesterday - wish I had discovered it earlier. Figured I’d share my frustrating story.

I applied for the lottery in March 2021, and received word this past June (2022) that my application was ready to be processed. I sent in all my financial info and, when asked, let them know I was looking for a one-bedroom. They said that no one-bedrooms were available, and I would receive word when there was an apartment for me - but, it definitely did sound like I would be receiving an apartment at some point. I was assigned a wait list number in the 5,000s, and given no indication of any potential timeline.

Yesterday, I called to see if there was any update. The person I spoke with asked for my name and wait list number. He informed me that the lottery was closing in February, and that anyone in this lottery who hadn’t received an apartment by then would be out of luck (tho they could re-apply in the next lottery). So of course, I asked what my chances were. He told me that at present, they were working on the 2,000s. Given that my wait list number is in the 5,000s, he said that realistically, there were probably 500-600 people ahead of me waiting for one-bedrooms. He then said, to give me a real idea of my chances, that in the past three months, only 11 one-bedroom apartments had become available. So, he said, I was probably going to be out of luck.

Big bummer. Fingers crossed for the next lottery, I guess.
That sucks! They are scheduled to close in February but I think they will extend the lottery because there are too many applicants on hold and others who haven't been contacted at all. It's probably going to be exactly like the 2018 lottery where they kept the lottery open but only processed a few applicants at a time while simultaneously working on the new lotteries.

Depends what unit size you want. They've had more movement on the 2 bds and opposed to the 1s.
