How many people in New York actually carry their "papers" while out on the street? I know I don't. Unless you drive you have a driver's license, and most people here don't drive.
Do u mean most people who live in Manhatten b/c if u take a journey through BK, QUeens or the Bronx, there is very little available parking b/c many NYers nowadays in fact do drive.
And the question should be allowed, especially if the cops ask somebody a question about something and no English comes out of there mouth.
because of the work i do i travel a lot so it pretty funny when they ask for another form of id and you start breaking out the other i,d cards and they go ok i belive it you ..

I'd guess as much as 50% of New Yorkers don't carry their id at all times (SS, driver's license, passport).
born and bred in NY and I Always have my wallet on me (which has my id) Most of the people I know Always carry their wallets with them as well which has their Drivers license , etc. Cant say I do not know many people that do not.

That's bull man. Less than 40% of residents of New York City commute daily by car.

U have to understand that the responses and answer of a young college student are gonna be different than older folks who have had a lifetime of delaing with illegal issues and being rejected out of places from not having an ID. Especially those who have lived in other states for awhile. Most working, normal adults folks, carry their license and SS on their person at all times. They fit favorite easy into ur wallet.
The post that tell people to move to another country are ridiculous. I have a feeling that many of the folks who dont like the question have family that is here illegally. Just a thought
everytime i have checked into a Manhatten hotel i have to show my drivers lics when i check in with my credit card ..when i have paid with my credit card in a lot of places they ask for my drivers lics or other form of id to make sure it me ..
on the back of my credit card i have signed it ask for my id please ..
ID's should be carried at all times.

And do you know that if you are asked for your ID and cannot produce it, you can be arrested and locked up for vagrancy?
I agree with you that cops should be able to ask people to see their IDs and Cards (if they're immigrants) and no one should get special treatment due to the politically correct world we live in.
All American its a dumb law and I can tell by ur post's that ur a true American. But the problem in NYC and a lot of places is that Democrats dont wanna hurt anybodys feeling and republicans still need illegals to do their s*** work around the house for cheap.
I really hate the "were all foreigners" argument b/c we all now that back in the days all of the free services that we give away now didnt exist. Do u realize an estimated 100,000 illegals have left Arizona since that law? Lucky state, leadership stood up, But thats another story.
Bottom line is it would be nice if NYPD could ask but it probably wont be allowed to anytime soon. NYC is a santucary city for undocumented folks. CA is even worse which why I can't wait to move soon.
Of course YOU hate the we are all immigrants argument. Its makes everything much easier for you people. Free services didn't exist? Of course it wasn't free, it costed millions of innocent lives. Basically, to me, pariots are people blinded by their pride for their country.

Look, I don't support the idea of illegal immigrants, but grabbing and searching people is really ****ed up. Besides, they won't ask white people for their immigration papers, and there are illegal immigrants from Europe.

I am SURE a strong pro american would be offended if the cops ask them to show proof of citizenship. This also lead to profiling.
