I don't think the policy is racist, what is racist is how it will be applied/enforced. How do you suspect someone of being illegal? Clothes? Accent? Hair? Employment? Neighborhood? You don't see a problem here, or the obvious abuses/exploitation that will be rampant?
The same way you bag check.
What are you referring to as policy?
This bag check is recent.
How do you suspect a person of entering your house if they don't live there?
How do you suspect a person of entering a workplace that does not work there?
How do you suspect someone of buying alcohol under 18?
Not speaking English is a good start. Hanging out at the local Home Depot with their hand out. These are good starts. Yes there may be some exploitation by thats become necessary when a problem has gotten out of hand.
I agree, there are certain clues and ways to tell if someone is not from this country.
Who am I trying to protect? YOU. ME. PEOPLE in general.
Besides, I haven't called it racist...YET. I haven't looked to see the stats on who gets their bags checked most. But as I said before, law enforcement always works on bias. And as I have said before, bag checking could mean the difference between life and death.
This country is over 300 years old and in the last few years we started bag check.
Having someone here illegally could mean the difference between an American's life or death. On top of that Illegals create many other problems.
You 2 have made your points...and unfortunately there are alot of people who have such narrow vision, limited life experiences, and grossly misinformed, who function on a superficial/knee jerk/simplistic everything is black and white level.
I think this thread has run its course, although it should have ended from your first posting.
three were not any bombs 234 years ago. As I've said HUNDREDS of times, illegal immigration is wrong. But just getting up and searching whoever you think is suspicious is also wrong. Also, bombs are more dangerous than a lost green card. People have a tendency to blame whoever they can for their problems, instead of looking for real solutions.
There were other dangerous weapons 300 years ago. A weapon is a weapon.
Searching bags is no different than searching to see who is a criminal & broke our laws.
In this day and age with all the crazy crap going on- NYC cops should be allowed to check our bags AND make sure we are legally in this country
