You really need to check yourself, get your life in order. Please do the black community and the rest of New Yorkers a favor by coming here with your head right, an education, qualification, an open mind with some money, a job, an ambition. Set your sights up. Don't be a fool. Have something to offer bring something to the table. Be respectful and fruitful. Have some value. Again, have your head right. Ive known Jamaican men who were deported or worse had led poisoning all because they said and did dumb things. NYC is not kind and NYPD don't play. Be careful and be smart. Take care.
I am a normal person, I just want to get an idea of what I have to look for. Maybe more life experience is something I need, but I am my own person and I will make that decision for myself.

$800 by yourself is tough, Even in East NY you can't find a decent basement (that isn't a hole in the wall) for less than $950. A friend of mine was looking for a long time (months) and finally found a basement for $950 in Cypress Hills, but only through someone he knew. The Cypress Hills section of East New York is mostly hispanic, there are more Trinidadian and Guyanese the closer you get to Queens but for the most parts more Jamaicans live south near Pitkin ave. If you do look in the neighborhood try finding something near an express stops especially on the A, (Broadway Junction, Euclid ave. or Grant ave.), the local stops are sketchy at night.

Honestly you might have to find a roommate to stay in brooklyn or troop it to Queens, even then I'm talking Richmond Hill or Jamaica. You'll still find tons of Jamaican/Trini/ and other west indian people out there but the commute gets long. Canarsie might have some places but the commute is tough since there's only one train and it leaves you at the beginning of the neighborhood.

^ unless it has changed recently, don't think I'd consider richmond hill as a black community. Maybe south ozone park, but even there, south Asians maybe taking over.

I know, I suggested Richmond Hill rent wise, it's mostly south asian, even the west indian community is more of the Indian ancestry type. Anywhere east of Jamaica you have to rely on the bus system which isn't fun in Winter/Summer. Far Rockaway has the A train but it's an hour from the city at minimum and if he goes to let's say Brooklyn college it'll be closer to two hours with transfers.

Why don't you tell us about your "suburbs" where you pack all the Arabs and blacks?

The last people who have any claim to being color blind are the French.

I would have suggested East New York, but that isn't that "Urban". It's on the up and up, and the community is very good.

You therefore must know very few French people ! Because claim they will indeed.
We have got into terrible political arguments with people.
On the other hand, a few, friends, are quite aware.

We should just accept that racism will always be rampant in every diverse society. Racism&extreme segregation plagues every diverse society whether its the US, Brazil, South Africa, UK, France, etc. Countries with no diversity don't have to deal with this divide and can generally have one national identity and live happily as one unified people.

To answer the question, all of the urban black communities in NYC are war zones..Maybe you can get away with Harlem but the 'better' parts of Harlem arguably aren't even "black neighborhoods" anymore or at least won't be in 10/yrs or so. The only good black areas within the NYC limits are the semi-suburban black communities of SE Queens, parts of the NE Bronx and Canarsie..
