Pimping is also illegal in Nevada and only exists where prostitution is illegal like Las Vegas and Reno. The brothel proprietors charge fees for rent and services. Sex workers are considered independent contractors.
I am in agreement. Pimping thrives where prostitutes are not empowered and not privy to the legal protections that the rest of us are privy to. There is a reason....
The pimps I know of operate under the guise of protecting and providing a home, food clothing, (drugs) etc to those that struggle to support themselves. They take all their earnings so that they will totally dependent on them. It is all about control and leverage. It took a group of us and a lot of effort to help out one of our friends out of that mess.
Empower the women and they will less likely be victims.
Care to recommend one such place? I like to know where I can get cheap massage work with no funny business.
.
You've got to be kidding... lol.
There are many legit massage places with no funny business.... in NJ alone there are several chains ex. Massage Envy, Elements Massage, Massage Heights. There are plenty of individuals with NJ Certified Massage Therapist... not to be confused with just health code certificates.
If prostitution were legal, you wouldn't be asking such a question.
PS. I know this is a NYC forum... but from your username I am assuming that you are NJ.
"This is a side effect that everyone should consider when talking about legalizing this nonsense."
oh, that was happening a lot too here in Brokenlyn.........chinese whoa-houses masquerading as massage parlors.....(many i walked by no longer exist)....
too bad the government just doesn't deport them [illegal 'whoever'] back to their muthaland....
we have enough american born "courtesans."
People write pretentious reviews on yelp all the time.

Yes.. Government already interferes in a lot of things.. doesn't mean we should hand over even more freedoms...
Your analogy to prescription drugs is a failure. The SCOTUS has ruled that the Right to Privacy is implied by several Amendments of the Constitution. I don't think many would argue that sex is a private matter.
Selling is legal
F****** is legal
So why is it Selling F****** illegal?
- George Carlin RIP.
What does Right to privacy have to do with needing permission from licensed entity to buy something from another licensed entity? Regulations is needing to safeguard all those involved. Exceptions need to be made when necessary. Prostitution is one of the items that threads the needle, and needs exceptions.

Are those asian massage parlours? I think the person I originally talking to said asian massage parlours. Like the ones in Flushing.
I see those girls standing outside all the time soliciting business. It makes me so sad. They charge only a $1.
Quick question, would you be ok with a brothel in your neighborhood, say on your block?
Well, what do people do with strip clubs? Don’t they usually get zoned somewhere specifically? If NYS makes prostitution legal, then it won’t be the first so it can look to other places that have and use them as examples for implementation.

We have to separate our personal feelings from law. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean that it should be illegal. If we outlawed everything that someone (or even some majority) didn't like, then almost everything would be illegal. The legal principle is that someone has a right to operate without interference as long as that person deals with other individuals on a voluntary basis and does not violate their rights.
In a free society, people may form private communities with voluntary contracts for residency, which might include rules such as "no brothels."

I would not give a single F. I went to Berlin and they had massage parlors right on residential blocks.
I don't see why it would be a big deal.
