Could you, as a non-smoker/user, be friends with smokers/users? (husband, person)

I have always been a non-smoker. I have many friends and family who smoke. That doesn't bother me, but I never dated anyone who smoked and my DH never smoked. I'm not friends with any drug users, not interested.
I would associate with a smoker, but I would stay away from their home and vehicle. As for drug addicts, I have nothing to do with them and I stay well clear of them.
I smoke, a few friends smoke, but other than my brother, no one in my family smokes. With the exception of my low life step dad, we are very respectful of those who dont. We go outside when we smoke, except for one guys house because his mother lives with him and gets all bent out of shape about it, but we seldom go over there any more any ways. Even at home, I go out on the porch, no matter the weather since my wife doesnt, and my kids dont smoke. (Although my oldest did, but quit.) Never in the cars, but I do when Im by myself in my truck, and yes my butts go in the ashtray!
Let me tally up my friends and their de "light" full addictions.
Hmmm...two that are nicotine addicts.
five that love their alcohol
three that LOVE their caffeine ( yes caffeine is a drug)
Two that are addicted to gun collecting .
so yup, I have friends that are into rather non welcoming habits/addictions.
Now here is the funny part...
I smoke cigs. I love my coffee.
I am allergic to alcohol ( recovery does that)
and I have zero desire to load, hold or be near a violent tool of mass murder.
Yet I enjoy my friends and we have other common bonds that are worthy of attending.
They know where my boundaries are, and thankfully I know where theirs are.
I hate cigarette smoke, but if you smoke, it doesn't mean we can't be friends. Same with drinkers although I actually am a drinker myself. I hang around some folks now and then who use drugs, but not while they are using. The best lace to hang out at work on break was with the smokers. They always knew the best gossip and delivered with anger and snark!
Oh sure. Some of our friends smoke, but they are so respectful about it, it never bothers us. We all take a toke from time to time, but I don't get much out of that---rather have an edible.
We all drink socially as well.
I have dated smokers (I've never smoked) and it seems to depend on the frequency. Occasionally, non-chain smokers did not have a lingering smell about them, at least the ones I was around.
No. Since I have bad asthma and can't be around smoke of any kind.
The people I associate with don't smoke and that's fine with me.
