If you can't find anything to do it is really your own fault. I took my daughter to the Heart of Christmas show at the Crown on Sunday. It was great, all local talent, the money goes to help local children's charities. The have been doing it for 13 years.

The local version of the Nutcracker is coming up too. Again all put on by the local dance schools.

They have the Dicken's Christmas events downtown to look forward to.

The local theater company is doing "A Christmas Carol" too.

Come on! Have you not ever seen a copy of the Weekender or Up and Coming magazines?

There is really no reason to sit in your house and complain about nothing to do in Fayetteville.

You want to help people? I can put you in touch with the Hope House in Hope Mills and you can provide cooked meals for the needy. They could always use more help.

I will agree about a water park. Put it near I-95 and you would have a gold mine. There was a project to build one but it got cancelled a year ago when the economy tanked.

I'm new to the state, but have there been any discussions about allowing a local Indian tribe to build a casino? It would have to be authorized by the state legislature. The tribe would also have to have federal recognition.

I am originally from Connecticut, and the Indian casinos bring in a lot of money and jobs.

Isn't there already several water parks in NC?

Not near Fayetteville. We have 50,000 soldiers and their families in the area. Like I said a gold mine.

The closest tribe is the Lumbee and they only have state recognition not federal. I believe the Eastern band of the Cherokee have one out west.

And the Cherokee plus the Tuscarora in NY spend a fair bit of cash every year killing the yearly Lumbee recognition bill. However, the Cherokee just signed an agreement with the state to limit their control over table games to west of I-26 when originally they wanted full state control, so maybe that'll open the door for a potential Lumbee gaming site in the future, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

There was one out there, in almost the exact spot they were talking about putting that one, back in the late 1980's. It only stayed open 3 or 4 years. I guess people who live in Fayetteville think it's too far to drive to that part of town.

There's one in Wilmington and close to Greensboro--quite a drive to either from Fayetteville.

Default 4 months here, not really liking it

Recently got stationed here after living in "flyover"(Nebraska and the Dakotas) states for about 4 years, so I know a thing or two about living in not-so-exciting places, but Fayetteville definitely rubs me the wrong way. There's a very depressive atmosphere here and I get this vibe that people here have a deep sense of distrust for anyone they don't know too well. I was born and raised in NYC so I'm no stranger to this but Fayetteville is on another level.

Not gonna rag on this place too much since I've only been here for a short while, but thus far, this is easily one of the most non-friendly/"cold" places I've ever lived.

I was stationed at Ellsworth in the past too. There is much more to do out here plus the weather is 100% better. You just have to find an activity to get involved in and that way you will meet people. Plus Air force types are rare in town nowadays. I have found local respond more positive to you when they find out you are in the USAF than the Army.
