Charlotte is getting direct intermodal rail service to Port of Wilmington

CSX has launch a intermodal rail service between the Port of Wilmington and the railroad’s terminal in Charlotte, , boosting the city’s status as a transportation hub
One intermodal train will take 280 trucks off the road, according to the N.C. Ports Authority. Transit will be overnight, providing better transit times to the city, Cozza said.

The regional container hub, called the Carolina Connector, will route and reroute freight from trucks and trains to final destinations up and down the East Coast and across the country. It’s expected to bring 149 jobs to the Rocky Mount area, which has the second-highest unemployment rate in the state.

That's awesome. Hopefully this is something NC will continue to invest in considering the bottlenecks at other ports on the east coast.

One note -its actually only 6,000 containers. A TFU represents the twenty foot half container that are rarely used. You can't put them on the rail unless there is another 20' container going to the same hub. They usually get orphaned and delayed because there isn't another 20 footer to pair them with.

Being we were posting about the port of Wilmington. it would be good to know where a lot of these containers go.

If you notice I change some of the wording.

We must put down the place I got this information.

From the Port of Wilmington it also ships to Greensboro and Raleigh.

Renderings released for Portman's office project in the South End neighborhood of Charlotte. Great presence along the rail trail for walkability and adjacent to Sycamore Brewery. Atherton Mill is on the opposite sides of the tracks.

SouthEnd is getting a ton of development this tall and this high quality. Uptown with its 600, nearly 700’ tower dominate CLT discussion news but SouthEnd has so much spectacular and tal developments too.
