The table's a little hard to read (I just copy + pasted from Excel--I don't have time to make it pretty right now ) but you get the picture.

FWIW, I think it's a pretty useless statistic, but since people insisted on bandying it about in their attempts to bash PA, I figured I'd put it the rumor to rest.

The information that actually means something is the incidence of hate crimes, but even that shouldn't be used to discount an entire state, as such crimes are seldom evenly spread, but concentrated to specific areas. For example, while New Jersey has an extremely high rate of hate crimes as a whole, I've never experienced a single issue there, and I wouldn't let it scare me away from settling somewhere like Princeton or Haddonfield.

In that regard, PA ranks close to the bottom:

I live in Harrisburg and never hear anything about racism specifically or hate groups in general. Wouldn't one need to be pretty much looking for a hate group to come across one?
