The Pope's visit should be cool. Hopefully they leave Tom Corbett in Europe.

It is being held in the convention center. How can it support that many people? you look at the agenda and it doesn't look like a HUGE event (ie. speakers, break-out sessions, etc). If the Pope comes, I certainly hope they do something in a larger venue.

Everything I have read indicates that a lot of people will show up whether they go to the formal sessions or not.

If the Pope comes it's, probably, guaranteed that thousands will show up. There are a lot of Catholics in the Phila. area and several Catholic shrines that will draw others from through out the world. Two of those shrines are connected to two American saints who were Philadelphians.

While i am not a big fan of chaput I just love how people like yourself bash the church for enforcing church teaching. Want gay and or women priests and gay marriages, then Episcopal church is for you. Pope Francis supports none of that stuff.

The Episcopal Church is not for me as religion in general is not for me. That said, as an outsider, especially one who was raised catholic and left the church, I have every right to say whatever I wish about the church. Enforcing church teaching is the biggest line of BS imaginable. Church teaching is whatever the hell they want it to be. Do you actually think there has been any consistency at all in the beliefs of the Roman Catholic church throughout the centuries? The catholic church used to imprison and torture people, those views have evolved through the centuries (although perhaps a number of alter boys would disagree) why can't their equally abhorrent views on women and gays change?

Also nothing in my post should have led you to believe that I was hoping for gay marriage in the catholic church or that I though pope frank would approve of such a thing. I don't live in fantasy land. I know that's not happening, certainly not now, perhaps not ever. All I would want from the catholic church is some common decency. They don't have to embrace homosexuality with open arms, but they could at least stop teaching children that it's evil and immoral.

And while Pope Frank may not want gay marriage or women priests. He has said that gays should not be demonized, and even he should not judge them. He spoke out on the need to stop focusing on small and divisive issues such as abortion and contraception and that ultimately the goal of the church should be to help people. He attacked capitalism and inequality and championed the rights of the poor.

His views could not be further from chaputs bigoted tea party charade.

Church teaching has changed over the centuries that is true. but that does not mean
we get to pick and choose( Cafeteria CAtholocism) which teachings to follow.
The Bishop is expected to follow church teachings. Just because the church does not follow whats politically popular for the day makes it wrong.

Their views or gays and women are probably not what you think they are but some BS put into your head from the liberal left.

The church is to lead the world, not follow it.

Um, no, you do not get to pick and choose what teachings to follow. The church gets to pick and choose. That's the point, they can do whatever they want as their history has proven. Pope Frank chooses to focus on teachings with a more positive message while Chaput uses fear to push his backwards agenda. And no their views were not "put in my head" I've read plenty of actual quotes.

Either way good luck on the church leading the world. With their rapidly declining population they are in no position to lead anything.

I would not call the Catholic Church membership in rapid decline, but the one thing keeping it going is the growing Hispanic population.

yeah just because the church will not ordain woman and conduct gay marriage doesn't make it backwards. If anything, they are standing firm on their beliefs unlike many others who cowardly and cave in to the collective thought of society that will run you out of town if you dare go against their opinion.

If anything, the catholic church does not treat woman as bad as you probably were made to think. If the church hated women, they would not hold Mary in such high esteem.
