I hope so. cpomp posted it in the city v city forum, that homicides were down in Jan. I think he might have jinxed it though, because Feb. sadly started off with a proverbial bang...

This project sounds fantastic. Thank you for posting good news.

Hopefully, part of the equation here is that there needs to be a much greater police presence in order to respond to positive gun IDs. We need more of this in regular policing. The kids that are terrorizing this town are all using technology to commit their crimes - through social media etc. Modernization of policing is an absolute MUST if we're to gain any momentum.

This is a great start.

Though I should note that the passenger who died as the result of an attack at 8th and Market station last night got stabbed.

And the report I just heard said that the cops know who the stabber was. Apparently, he hangs out in the area.

Eek and at 547pm. Did that cause a commotion in the area?

What is the process to issue a warrant for arrest? If the police know who the guy is, why not get approval to act immediately?

Why TF was a known person allowed to kill someone?

This is unacceptable.

I don't think just being known as a vagrant by the police is grounds for arresting someone. Though, I am curious of his previous record if he has one.

I'm sorry, but we need to put the mentally ill back into institutions.

Is it even debatable that the mentally ill don't need to be on the street?

Life isn't fair....sorry.

There is a middle-ground, you know. As in a society that actually recognizes that mental health is actually a problem, and invests in real solutions with real money. And start addressing it at the very first signs it shows up in young children. Intervention doesn't mean institutionalization.

Young children with unaddressed mental health issues turn into adults with unaddressed mental health issues. And they have access to weapons.

I remember seeing an article not too long ago that gave some sort of absurd statistic regarding the number of counselors in Philadelphia schools, and the ratio of counselors to students was like one to multiple thousands. These are public schools that need far more counseling than virtually any suburban locale. Yet it's the schools with a far less traumatized student population whose districts absolutely have far more mental health resources. Make that make sense.

This is a prime example of how a social issue is never addressed properly, leading to much greater social costs down the road.

I'm assuming you have to be more than a vagrant to be "known" by the SEPTA police.
