A lot of movies are listed, but I didn't know the Exorcist was filmed in Arizona.

I was at the filming of a 2 or 3 scenes in Clint Eastwood's The Gauntlet, which wasn't exactly a candidate for an academy award nomination! This was on Memorial Day Sunday of 1977, I was on Adams and 2nd Avenue with a couple of other people, as the bus Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke (Ben Shockley and Agustine (Gus) Malley) were on, was going southbound on 1st Ave. That was one scene, then in a seperate scene, as the bus turned east on Adams, and yet another one as police officers were shooting at it as it was going eastbound on Adams towards City Hall, which was really The Civic Plaza and Symphony Hall. Those scenes took about an hour or two to film, with long pauses between filming of each scene, and the filming for each segment lasted for not more than 30 seconds, and I know that because I was able to hear somebody saying "Action", and "Cut".

The scene where the bus was full of bullet holes and was driven up the steps of the Civic Plaza, which was towards the end of the movie, was actually filmed a week later.

First National Bank Tower, which is now The Wells Fargo Tower. That picture must have been taken sometime in 1970, and I guess I'm a few days late because I would have said the same because of the shape of the building. I also thought it was a steel-frame building, but I guess not. I was only 14/15 when the tower was completed around late 1971 or early 1972, and for short period of time, it was also the tallest building in Phoenix, until the 40-story Valley Bank Tower (Now Chase Tower) on Central and Van Buren exceeded the height of the FNB tower.

I think the Fox Theater was the first to use AC in 1931, in fact, on the marquee they advertised bring in your groceries and we will put them in our large refrigerator. People would take their sweaters with them in the summer because it was so cool inside.
My uncle installed a Goetl? unit in 1951 in his little house on Palm Lane and 14th Street that cost $1200 at the time.
I read somewhere that the San Carlos Hotel was the first building in Phoenix that was built with A/C, but it was actually some sort of an ice cooling system that circulated throughout every room in the hotel.

One of the floors in the hotel is also said to be haunted by supposedly the spirit of a woman who jumped from the roof of the hotel to commit suicide not long after the hotel opened in 1928.

I also remember one that was located at 32nd and Van Buren. Also when I was in about 2nd or 3rd Grade I went to a school at 12th Street and Camelback. There was a classmate of mine whos family owned one of these stores. At times my mother would give the girl a ride to the store as we went by there on our way home. The store was located on Camelback between 24th Street and 36th Street. I remember her dad giving me a really nice rock collection. Your right most of the jewelry sold in those stores was the real deal.

Funny though I had forgotten all about it until reading the posts today.

Yes, I do remember the one near 32nd & Van Buren. Petley Postcards had their office right near it if I recall correctly. If you lived in Arizona back then or you visited here, you bought a Petley postcard and sent it to the folks back home. They had scenes of Arizona and the Southwest and some were humorous western themed cartoons. The most popular Petley postcard of all times was the Jackalope. Growing up in Mesa, one of our neighbors was Bob Van Luchene who was a professional photographer to took a lot of the scenic pictures that went on Petley's postcards. By way of these colorful postcards, most of America and the world learned about Arizona.

Notice how pristine the street is? Not a spec of litter much less graffiti.

Nice pic!

This store looks like the store that was on the SE corner of ,I believe, 44th st. and Van Buren when nothing was out that way. I think the old original Balsz school was on the NE corner where we went to get our sugar cube polio vaccination. I must have been 3 or 4 then.

I remember a scene being shot for a movie at the Dairy Queen on 66th St. and McDowell south side. The movie name was sumthin like "Blankety Bland and the Gold Dust Twins"? The old building for Dairy Queen is still there but is a used cars place now surrounded by new car dealers. There was a pizza place just past it named Pizza Pub. Any kid growing up in this area knew these two landmarks. Down past 68th Street was a Burger Chef drive in and next to it was Western Honda motorcycle dealer and next to that was the original Max of Switzerland who was the original Rolls Royce/Jaguar and Porsche dealer for the Valley.
