My ex-brother in law worked at that Sperry plant. I remember Cloud 9; the other restaurant you speak of is (was) Green Gables at 24th and Thomas.

Interesting list of movies there, who knew all those were filmed here!. Between IMDB and google I think I found it. "Ninja III, the domination". Really bad film, just was fun to see the local sites in it. The scene at the hole in the rock, and all! 1984 release I think it was

The color inset shows the building in 2003 and yes - it's still there.
BTW the Sine family were very influential in the development of Glendale.
I lived in a neat old house, on 58 th drive

Ever wonder what a real Indian store looked like in Phoenix during the early 40's? These were for tourists but had some good items. This particular store I have not been able to pinpoint, probably on Central at one time.

Default Roosevelt to the rescue

Roosevelt, can you (or anyone) id the locations of these 2 images?

I think the one showing the Mint Cafe is at Washington & 2 Ave maybe? Is that the old Ford hotel on the right and the Professional Building in the background? From what I remember about this image, was that there was a protest of sorts going on with the local "negros". Info anybody?

The other one may be near Phx Union High School. That looks a bit like Monroe School in the background.(7th ST & Monroe) BTW. Barry Goldwater attended both of these schools (assuming Im right) Im thinking 7th St & Van Buren looking ESE.

The Mint Cafe was on 2nd Ave. and Washington and was owned by a Greek family who also owned an ice cream shop next door. I think the cafe was later the Savoy. Greek families also owned the Saratoge, Busy Bee and the Grand which was later the Flame. The signs being carried in the photo were Socialist slogans. That's the Ford Hotel with its sleeping porches and in the background the Arizona Title building, I think that is what it was called. The Professional Building was on Central and Monroe and built by Valley National Bank. It was supposed to be converted to a hotel but went into foreclosure after Mortgages Ltd. went broke and the money dried up. I was in there while they were restoring, all the floors have everything except walls ripped out so it is a mess.

The stand was directly across from the Phoenix Union auditorium on Van Buren. Monroe school is behind it on 7th Street. The stand was on wheels I think.

The jewelry they sold in those stores was usually the real thing and is worth a mint nowadays. I remember this store on 44th St. & Van Buren. It was right at the start of Motel Row and would catch all the tourists heading down US 60.
