Wasn't that place called University Golf? I remember being like 10 years old riding my bike from price and broadway to go play golf at that place. Do you have any pics or have any links of pics posted on line of that place?

Here you go, AZBradley - ignore the title, it's not Legend City but a postcard of the Center Street Bridge.

I was born and raised in Phoenix and I'm really enjoying reading all of the things that people remember from 'the day.'

Here are a few of my memories before they slip away:

I remember Wagon Wheel Kiddie Land. May years later I worked with a son of the owner whose name was Tim and we both worked at Kords Ambulance. Would anyone know where Time Mason might have ended up? He worked as a deputy over in one of the counties along the Colorado river.

I remember Legend City.

I remember a really great pool and party area called Palm Beach. It was down on Baseline out in the avenues somewhere between 7th and 27th avenues. There was a huge pool that never got super deep and next to it was a diving pool with two diving boards, one short and the other was very tall and way too scarey for a little kid like me to even think about trying.

I remember seeing the 'Chicken Delight' truck pull up to our house and the excitement of the taste and smell of the hot chicken, rolls, and whatever else came with it.

I remember the 'Golden Drumstick' restaurant that was on Central ave just a few buildings south of a smallish theater called 'The Palms'.

I remember the Silver Dollar Drive In on south Central and the playground that they had just a little ways away from the snack bar. If I didn't like the movie my mom & dad had picked, I'd spend most of the time on the playground.

I remember going with the family out to visit and Aunt and Uncle that lived in Peoria. My uncle owned and worked a cotton gin/mill and then on the way home (driving thru the citrus groves) seeing the sign that read, for the longest time, Welcome to Phoenix. Population 100,000!

I remember my parents dropping me off downtown so I could go to the Saturday morning show that Wallace & Ladmo would put on at the Fox Theater where the bus terminal is now.

I remember eating at Pete's Fish & Chips on Central just south of the bridge. My favorite was the monster burger with fries and that great hot sauce/ketchup sauce had. I loved the rest of it too; the fish, shrimp, scallops, and oysters. This is the first place I ever tried an oyster and I've loved them ever since.

I remember Compton Terrace. I was there for the opening concert and, as an EMT, I and all the other folks that were members of the Arizona Emergency Medical Technician Association (AEMTA) got to drive the band and roadies around in Lincolns that were donated by good 'ole Jack Ross of Jack Ross & Aquanetta fame!!! Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Jerry Riopelle, John Steward, and others I know I'm missing did the job of opening the venue with the concert being a benefit concert for the Heart Association. Stevie's dad had just recovered from open-heart surgery and was proudly showing off his scar after the concert at the villa they had rented in the Mountain Shadows Resort. What a night that was. I could tell you some stories about that, that's for sure!! Stevie's dad was a ton of laughs that night!
I'll post more when the cobwebs allow them to escape.

How do you remember Phoenix? Stories from long time residents...-dsc00760.jpgI have piles of old newspapers. He is an interesting picture of the Wranglers. They didn't last long did they? I was at the first game. The Beach Boys put on a concert at the north end of the stadium.

I also remember the semi-pro? team Phx had for a very little while called the Phoenix Blazers. I found a website that even has some stats for the teams of the era. This would have been early 70s.

So glad to hear that someone remembers Palm Beach. I didn't remember it being on Baseline but I do remember riding my bike up to the pool. I remember it had a curved slide and a great snack bar...snow cones on a hot summer day. And of course the Silver Buck...went there as a child and a teen.
