I think they were eating the crops, maybe it was cotton.
And after the caterpillars came millions of yellow butterflies that clogged car radiators.

Showing the Biltmore with the trail up to the reservoir. Lincoln Drive is a dirt road.
Is there a "Pink Sidewalk" somewhere in that picture? I remember reading about that.

If it's where I think it is, between McDowell and Oak on Scottsdale on the west side, closer to Oak, it would have been Ambrosino's.

an original section of the well-known pink sidewalk is still in place amid a newer gated housing development in the area....if you're an able hiker, hike on a trail over the low saddle just to the SE of the main parking area for Squaw Peak hikers, look down into that area of houses and, on the west side of the main street, look carefully for the sidewalk and an original small bench or two....maybe go during the middle of a weekday when, if gutsy, you can work your way down into the private development to the path itself and see a piece of Phoenix history......there are some newer un-original sections added as part of the development, but a sharp eye can ID the real stuff

Speaking of Chris Town, This is "Ol Man Chris" (Chris Harri)as we called him when i was a 5 or 6 years old. we lived next to his farm, on Nile and 19 ave (Nile is now called Colter). he would walk down the street or chug around on his tractor, we would call him names and he would chase us with his pitch fork it was great fun!!! I was told that nameing the mall after him, was a condition of the sale....

These pictures have been recycled a lot but try to find them. The two monkeys at Christown, corky and Sammy.

Christown was always a real favorite. Park Central was OK but when Christown and Thomas Mall came along they were our favorites. The sand carvings at Christown were amazing. The Christmas season was really busy and parking was scarce but the mall was so nicely decorated. Shoppers like us were rushing around looking for that special gift for someone. It was a fun time.

Wasn't it Christown that had a Bob's Big Boy Hamburger place right inside the mall? It may have been the mall at 59th & Northern (ValleyWest seems right). The original entrance ways into the parking lot were different from other malls. I thought they were a bad idea.
