I remember Rob Roy's. Boy it seems like forever ago. Do you remember a bar called Mr. Lucky's or maybe it was Lucky's? If I'm remember correctly, it was designed inside with a dance floor on the lower level, and the upper level had game rooms like a casino??? It's been a long time and maybe I'm not remembering right. Also, there was a place called Bobby McGee's, but I can't remember where that was.

I think there were a few Bobby MCGee's. The one I remember was on the north end of Papago Plaza over next to the Papago Inn on McDowell and 70th St. where I was a busboy in the late 60's. Remember Minder Binders on University and MCclintock across from the APS power plant? That was a real college hangout in its day in the mid 70's to 80's.

Mr. Lucky's was on Grand Avenue near Indian School Rd. Had a western dance hall upstairs and contemporary music downstairs. Bobby McGees was on the Black Canyon freeway with bathtubs for the salad bar and toilets for seats at the table. Food servers wore costumes.

Went dancing in the basement at Mr. Lucky's many times in the early 90's. They also had food on the main floor, a fish fry on Fridays, etc. I didn't spend much time on the ground floor, if it had game rooms, I wouldn't know.

There was a Bobby McGees at Longmore and Southern in Mesa, along with the one at 27th Ave and Northern, right next to the I-17 and the one in Scottsdale.

LOL...Oh My Gosh... that's right... the bathtubs and toilette seats, and the costumes at Bobby McGee's.... Wow!! What a cool place that was. That place was wild. I think we must have gone to the one in Scottsdale. Do you remember what road it was located on in Scottsdale?? And is it still there, or something take it's place too? I remember now that Mr. Lucky's did have c&w upstairs. We went downstairs!!

Did anyone go up to Canyon Lake? Loved it there.

Do you remember.....
the Cud-Cuda-hey commercial? Legend of the west.
Listening to KDKB before it went rogue.
KRUX-1360----kruuuuuux--- with Paul Lee, and I think Dr. John 'Long'
KOPA with 'Crazy Dave' Otto (can't remember anyone else)
KRIZ
KZZP in Mesa/Phoenix with Bruce Kelly
Was KOOL a top 40 in the 70's too... seems like it was

The one in Scottsdale was on McDowell, in Papago Plaza. Come to think of it, there was one on Shea west of Scottsdale Road too. They are all long gone.

the building Minder Binders was in is still there and standing. it shut down maybe 8 years ago because ALL of the plumbing drains were rotted away. the sewer lines were actually just drininging into the dirt. it was going to cost a mint to replumb everything and bring it up to code so the owners just decided to close it down. from what i understand, everything is still inside, all the crazy decore. the owners are just sitting on it waiting to sell everything including the land in one shot.

fun trivia fact.......the famous pin striper/car customiser VON DUTCH actually pin striped all the booths and bar itself not long after it opened in exchange for an open bar tabwhen he was living and working in Tempe. most of it was painted over at some time, but if you lifted up the cushions and the benches you could still see the pin stripe work.

Yea, I remember Von Dutch. Great pinstriper on custom cars. Any of you old hotrodders remember Rumbles Speed Shop over on the NE corner of Price and Apache Blvd in east Tempe? I think his original location was on Mill and University behind his parents grocery store or something. I remember him racing his early pro comp car at Beeline Dragway in the 60's.
