We've been through this on other threads. That Gila Bend route is many miles longer than the existing I10 path through Phoenix. No one will be incentivized to use that on a regular basis.

The SMF will save travel time, cut down on congestion & pollution, reduce accidents, and save people money. These benefits will be for both cross country travelers as well as local commuters. A big win-win for everyone.

Only reason I would be for this is it would make getting to UoP Stadium more convenient. Once my folks move, I will have no reason whatsoever to venture into the West Valley.

Even if you never venture to the west valley, this will benefit everyone who uses I10 thru Chandler/Tempe.
All the cross country traffic will use the SMF which means the I10 will be a LOT less congested, safer, and have faster travel times which will save time and gas.

I'm looking forward when the new South Mountain Freeway ever gets built, it will help cut commuting time through the city and especially around the broadway curve in during rush hour.

I knew some people thought and said when loop 303 was going to be built, it will be a useless freeway and nobody lives out there and they are all wrong. Now it helps getting to and from Surprise, Peoria, Lake Pleasant and avoiding loop 101 even faster and the current Northern Parkway construction should also help the west valley. It just to bad they can't extend it all the way through I-17 and not stop it at grand avenue.

Understood...I wasn't really speaking against it, just that I would most likely rarely use it. Like I said previously...it has been in the works for over 20 years. It needs to and will happen, no matter what the residents in the path have to say. If they did their due diligence, they bought there with full knowledge that a freeway was going to be built sometime in the future.

So you are engaging the 'angry' posts, but not refuting the merits of the points I made in this decidedly 'non-angry' post? Does this mean you agree with these points?

There's a pretty cool animated video on the DOT website that takes you on the route from beginning to end.

As an Ahwatukee resident, I don't see any benefit of a freeway connecting our nice community with the ghetto of west- Phoenix.

Anytime I listen to the evening news, the shootings and murders all seem to occur in west Phoenix "avenues". Why would I want a freeway for the thugs to access my community via a freeway?
