The Heat and the feeling of being in the heat is just disgusting simple as that. It physically drains you and makes you feel ill.

People are grumpy around here this time of year, that's for sure. It's funny, out of all my friends the one complaining least about the heat is the one who works outside all day. He's adapted, it's June and he knows this is what happens. Everyone else is whining and they spend about 10 minutes in the heat walking from house to car to office, all in a/c.

I love it so much. It energizes me. Love the "hot hairdryer wind". I took a nap in the pool this afternoon. It was awesome.

It sure does but at least it doesn't prevent you from commuting and going about your daily routine.

The opposite is the extreme cold winters in much of the nation, you can't go outdoors without wrapping yourself up like a mummy and forget about commuting anywhere if there's heavy snow or an icestorm.

Summertime in Phoenix can be miserable but at least you're not forced to be stuck inside and you don't have to shovel heat.

There have been reports about why people are grumpy when it's hot, and here's one of them. https://www.livescience.com/21431-ho...ures-mood.html

I moved here from Philadelphia in 2003. I have found that the heat here is much different from the hot muggy days in the east. Here you try to get any outdoor work done by 10 am. I get up to walk at 5am and water the plants at 6:30 am. The nights can even be hot in Aug with temps sometimes staying in the high 80s and low 90s. I have found that I can play golf without problems as long as I drink enough water, wear a good hat and avoid playing when the temp is >110. Everyone here has a pool. The water temp is now in the 80s so it is like bath water. The winters here are very nice. Another thing to consider how different it is to live here vs the east coast. In addition to the weather it is quite different living here. Now that I am retired we are considering a move back east, perhaps a little further south to avoid the snow.

the article advises to focus on the fact that eventually it will cool down. Around here, though, that happy day could be five months away.

Sometimes I wonder how folks are able to tolerate waiting for the bus/light rail in 110 degrees and air quality but if these folks who are probably older(if not much older) than me can do it...

rocvc2015, you are definitely bucking the trend which has been to move from the east to the west after retirement! Where in the East are you considering?
