The bulk of Phoenix's revenues clearly come from other sources such as industry, building, heathcare, etc.
No, they are very important, and we have built our city around them. You are right when you say we need them to keep coming here. Our economy comes from service, Walmart for one, and healthcare, snowbirds keep that need going as well. They shop and get medical care, and rent or buy winter homes. That's our economy in a nut shell. About 400,000 of them come every year, that's no laughing number, most of them pay for a house here all year long yet don't take up any jobs, they are a gold mind to our economy.

(Sorry, I'm trying to be a loving person...but I also love, and will very soon I hope, live in Phoenix....I'm the dreaded freakin' snowbird. Maybe I'll move next door to you.)
Sorry annie but you won't be a snowbird if you live here year around.
You will be transplant, lol, but snowbirds usually own 2 homes, one for the winter here and one in their hometown. Or they rent for the winter, but either way the do both. Once you are living here year round, you are no longer a snowybirdie. lol
Get it, snowbirds fly south for the winter?
If you are on a pension and move here year around you are a "retiree".

Snowbirds are great people. We have snowbird friends and are happy to see them each year when they're here for several months.

We eat out a couple times a week and never have an issue.

I'm on the road a lot and the problem I have with drivers is not the snowbirds;
  • it's the local drivers that cut in and out of traffic trying to get there faster;
  • the red light runners who put everyone at danger and always insist that they didn't run the light, that the camera is wrong;
  • and the tailgaters who endanger other drivers;
  • and the drivers with the huge amps and speakers in their cars who hurt my ears as they pull up next to me at a red light.
Other than that, life is good in Phoenix.

This is a free country where we are very fortunate to have the freedom to live wherever we choose.

Snowbirds are welcome here.

And for those who dislike snowbirds, they have the freedom of speech to be able to express their dislike.

We can agree to disagree.

We live in a great country.

Not liking snowbirds is the same as not liking Grandma and Grandpa, not liking the Veterans of War,not liking the people who taught us in school when we were children, or not liking the activists who fought for civil rights in the 60's and 70's.
Snowbirds are our elders and like the Native Americans who once held this great region, we are called to respect them and live peacefully with them. If you don't like them, go freeze your backside off in Detroit. They need young strong people there to turn things around. Go do your time for our countryand leave the sun for your well deserved elders.

It's March. It is time them to leave now and give us a few weeks to enjoy the state before the heat comes.

I think it all has to do with where you live and work.

I haven't noticed any snowbirds but then again I live and work downtown.

You have a WAAAAY different definition of "snowbird" than I. If you take a Praire Dog from Kansas and put him in the Phoenix Zoo, do you mark his cage "Desert Rat" just because he lives in Phoenix? No, once a Praire Dog, always a Praire Dog. Same thing for a snowbird. If you're not a native, you're a snowbird; a non-migratory snowbird, maybe, but still a snowbird.
