McCain is considered a political anomaly as he was once a democrat, and independent, and then a republican again in order to run for president. The republican party nominated him because they hoped he would draw support from independents, moderate democrats, and of course all the repubs...obviously this strategy failed.
So Governor Brewer, Senators McCain and Kyl are not ""REAL REPUBLICANS"" Thank you, I needed that

Not at all...I mean Brewer pushing hard for a tax increase, McCain a: "Let the voters decide on Gay marriage" instead of just straight (no pun intended) legislation and clear denunciation of the matter. By the way, is he a repub this year since he didn't win the presidency or is he going to be a democrat or independent once more? Kyl, well he is more of a "solid" republican but even he has some heat in D.C. for not being republican enough and being a fence sitting politician and HOW DARE he cooperate with democrats!!!

After picking Palin for a running mate, he was the patsy as they knew it would be senseless that a Replubican would win this election...she shoed that philosphy in....there are many 'gun' states, right to carry...no big deal except being able to do so in bars...not so sure about that one...in Alaska you can carry and don't even need a permit...and it's legal...

There are factors as to why Phoenix is the way it is right now. Sprawl isn't just Phoenix's problem, it's many cities' problems as well.
I do believe a lot can be done to improve the downtown area. Though I haven't set foot downtown, I've read and heard enough to see that it just needs some definite TLC and patience. Rome wasn't built in a day.
Phoenix doesn't need to imitate LA, or any other city. I think Phoenix can market itself as a stand alone and wonderful place to be. Sure, some things may need tweaking, but those NIMBYs that I hear so much about seem to be a root cause to halted development.
Anything that could help boost the economy and contribute to growth and prosperity should be encouraged; that means more high-rises downtown, a step towards more urbanization, and utilizing renewable energy (c'mon, I'd love to see solar panels on everyone's roof, honestly), among other things.
Phoenix is the perfect place to be for many people, and they should market the city as such.

I know how the two party system works, and it is corrupt. Both major parties are overrun by a minority of loud mouthed extremists who want more government in our lives, and really don't represent the majority of registered voters. Most people want freedom of choice and moderation in politics. Thank God I became a Libertarian! Even I don't agree with everything the Libertarians stand for ... but at least I feel more accepted by this party than I did as a member of the GOP!

We're getting of the topic, but I agree completely about Palin. She was a horrible choice for a running mate ... and I can't stand her anyway. As far as I'm concerned, she's a conservative in name only because she squandered taxpayer money to send her rugrats on business trips with her ... and she squanders tax money to send her kids to public school. She favors abstinence before marriage, but couldn't keep her own daughter from having unprotected sex & getting pregnant!

I'm no fan of Obama, but I predicted that he would win, even long before Palin came along. I'm glad to see, however, that more people are waking up & realizing his socialist policies are dangerous for America. He's running us deeper into enormous debt, and wants the government to be involved in too many things which operate fine under the private sector. I think he's going to be in for a major upset in next year's Congressional races! Not that I really want more Republicans in control, but we do need a balance of power.

NIMBYs are a small minority, but they are basically pathetic losers without any purpose in life except to stir trouble. They target proposed private developments that would improve the skyline image, create jobs, and be a boost to the area. For example, the W Hotel project was a much needed hotel that would have been perfect for downtown, but the NIMBY preservationists helped kill it. I guess NIMBYs would rather see ugly, dilapidated structures and vacant lots than something that would add grace and beauty.

Most NIMBYs dislike highrises because they claim that more of them obstruct mountain views. What they fail to realize is that when a developer owns a piece of land, that developer has the liberty to do whatever he wants with it. Besides, highrises represent power and success ... so it's pretty obvious why NIMBYs dislike them.
