Nice! I literally never get over to Frankstown for some reason, but Hamilton is "very chill" for riding, and then there is a nice bike line on East Liberty Blvd, which must be fairly new, since it doesn't show up on 2021 Google street view.

I remember. It was a big deal in terms of retail and more really, for that area.

The new FNB Headquarters tower totally blocks the Gulf Tower when viewed from Overlook Dr. in Schenley Park.

The Carson Street redevelopment project is coming along. It looks very good especially the intersections and street lights. The LED lighting looks amazing at night.

Oakland may be the epicenter of Allegheny county construction. There are currently 3 cranes on the skyline with two more to follow by summer.

Are there any other major development areas in Allegheny? The airport.

Uptown is heating up. The BRT construction will start soon. Fifth and Forbes is a mess and has been for sometime. Prep infrastructure work has been going on for years now.

The retail store TRIM in East Liberty did not permanently close after all!!! TRIM relocated to Butler St. The new 2 story store is across the street from the Franklin and Mercer mens clothing store.

I am happy for the BRT, I’m a huge fan of public transportation. I wish the Light Rail “Spine” project would have kicked off They spent 7 million on the design phase of it. Would have been neat to travel into Oakland on light rail! The previous county executive was trying a lot and a huge fan of light rail. One can hope

Pittsburgh's Mercy Pavilion is nearing completion. It looks less whimsical than the rendering and that is a good thing. The facility turned out pretty nice

I worked in downtown Pittsburgh yesterday. The lunch time crowd is growing and you can see the influx of office workers steadily growing. Oakland is booming at the moment. Oakland has 6 cranes on the skyline!!

Looks like another major apartment project is on its way in the Strip - an Indovina/Hudson development with 234 units spread across two different buildings.

It will replace two buildings within a block of one another - here and here.

Renderings will likely drop some time this summer.

Amazing news! Thanks for sharing!

I won't be sad to see the property at 2929 Smallman Street razed, but it will be a bit sad to see the warehouse get torn down on 30th Street, as I think it is more of the Strip's unique Industrial architecture/heritage being lost to the wrecking ball.

The City has updated the ZBA agenda for May 18, which previously had only two items. There are now seven items on the agenda. Most notable is a new project at Hazelwood Green - a new building for the CMU Robotics Innovation Center, which is now housed in Lawrenceville.

I have mixed feelings about the project.

On one hand, it's nice to see some new development in Hazelwood Green besides Mill 19. There will be more employees in the area, and the rendering shows a small café off of the public park (which is already there) which could be the start of some street life. Also, CMU indicates they plan on building something fairly substantial on at least one other block within the development (perhaps as many as four) which means Hazelwood Green could develop into a little secondary campus nexus for CMU.

On the other hand, this is a really underbuilt project, and CMU is asking for special dispensation to get it built at all. Roughly half of the surface area is set aside for what they call a "running room program." This is basically a large open field on which it they can test their robots/drones. In order to comply with zoning, it's going to have to be surrounded by a fence, and they are asking for a variance to allow a higher than four foot fence in the area. Hardly peak urban design, and it kind of doubles down on the weird industrial park vibe going on in Hazelwood Green already.

I also wonder if this means they are vacating Lawrenceville entirely within a few years - and if so, what development opportunities will open up there.

The master plan for the new 31st Street Studios development has dropped. Looks like it will be 750 units of residential built out over three phases. Phase 1 will involve 250 units in a building at the corner of 32nd and Railroad Street, integrating a section of the existing structure (the "Plate Mill" as a three-story shared amenity space. Phase 2 will involve two buildings along 31st street with 250 units of residential, a 520-space garage, and some retail facing the riverfront. Phase 3 will develop the corner by 32nd street and the river, and involve another 250 units, plus another retail location facing the water. The developer is also keeping the steel frame from one of the bays to form an open roof over one of the public streets (similar to what has been done a bit further up at Bay 41. Overall, it looks like a great project with a well-thought out master plan, though it's gonna be awhile till it's built out.

Post Gazette has more, if you care to read.
