It's the Afgan culture, not the Muslim culture. By far, most Muslims are disgusted with that behavior. In the overall scheme of Islam, the Taliban, and for that matter, all Wahhabi sects, represent but a small fraction of Muslims.
I'm glad you pointed out the Greek culture, too. This was a way of life for them, particularly the great Spartans!
The Spartans allowed homosexuality into the ranks of their military elite because they found it increased unit morale and fighting spirit. It created a personnal bond between the warriors. They were much more willing to fight even until death for fellow sodiers they loved and cared for.
How do you think Leonides was able to keep his 300 Spartans fighting a force that numbered 100 times his. I don't think it was for Freedom or the Greek people.

It took our military years to get this weeded out of the ranks. Now take Afganistan which makes Vietnam seem like a confortable billet. You would probably get down on your knees and say "Thank God, the troops are only smoking Hash or Opium" Thank God!"

Again the west judges cultural differences that they do not understand because it does not fit into the MOLD that they believe the rest of the world should fit into.
I am more concerned with the fact that the MAJORITY of murders in this country are perpetrated upon WOMEN by the husband/boyfriend or man in their life.
There are far more pressing matters to be worried about what people living in Afghanistan are doing with their penises.
