For a minority to assimilate into mainstream culture, he or she, would have to be ultra subservient and dependent on the hegemonic social forces i.e., white supremacy. It's sad but true.
Exactly. He should not even be labeled "The first black president." Then, he wouldn't have that problem
I disagree. By virtue of being black, he is by far the most (in regards to race) socially conscious president that we've ever had period. That's not saying much but he is not an Uncle Tom in the true sense of the word... for one thing he actually considers himself black and has no qualms about it. For another, its not like he didn't have to suffer for being black... if he was ever confused about what race he was he found out the way most black men do when he was at school in Hawaii. He bypassed the socio-economic component of the black struggle... he was still just another ****** in the eyes of the mainstream though.
Basically nobody is "good" unless they conform to "white america," and until they do, they will be discriminated against? Am I right?
Basically. That's what half of these anti-muslim and anti-immigrant threads are about. ****tily masked echoes of the white mainstream agenda of this country that's been around since it started. Only recently have white people themselves began to acknowledge the existence of this agenda.
It's kind of like a slap in the face. That's why they say ignorant and tactless things when confronted. I just wish some ppl would stop getting personally offended and look at, then actually do something about the bigger picture instead of making silly justifiations or acting like it doesn't exist
