Like it or not, we are going to have a real problem on our hands. Our jobs have been shipped overseas and the truth is there simply are NOT enough jobs to go around. I don't see this improving.
Some people who are over 50 have killed themselves in despair. Others in their 20s wonder how they'll ever get out from under their student loan debt or be able to find a job.
For those who don't have family or friends to fall back on, isn't is really government and business's responsibility to provide for some kind of housing? I mean, we bailed out Wall Street. Now it's their turn. What's your opinion?

OK, I'll bite. Why don't we open up camps for every American that is down on their luck? But there would be conditions, because there's no such thing as a free ride, right? And since it's my money you'll be using, I think it's fair that I expect some concessions.
1. You must be take a drug and alcohol test every time you enter the camp. It's the only way to guarantee the safety and well-being of your fellow camp members.
2. Leave your luxuries at the door. No cell phones, computers, XBoxes, etc. This ain't no country club. If you can afford those things, you aren't really down and out, anyway, are you. That goes for a car, too. I'm already paying for public transportation that I don't use. You can take the bus.
3. You must agree to have your tubes tied or have a vasectomy. See #4.
4. When you get back on your feet, you will pay back the lending hand I gave you. You can pay me back with cash, or by working it off. Either way, you won't have the time and/or money for kids, so it's a good thing you were fixed. You will pay the money before you get your cut, and will do the work without complaint.
5. You will eat whatever food is put in front of you. No complaining now. Beggars can't be choosers.
6. You're out in 2 years. That's a fair amount of time to get your act together. At the end of 2 years, you will be escorted to the gate and cut loose. And the whole camp thing is a once-in-a-lifetime offer. No coming back in.
7. US citizens only. And if you're a child with illegal parents, you'll have to make a choice. Stay with them, or come in without them.
Do those conditions sound fair?
I threw in some cliches, since I know you really like them.

Actually, that same image ran through my head when I read the first quoted post.

Well, as they say, nothing like kicking someone even more when they are down. I do believe a few of your "requirements" are over the top. I guess I'll leave it at that.
Simply being able to apply for unemployment compensation for being unemployed could solve our problem in a more market friendly manner.
It would seem that way, but unemployment can't go on forever and if we don't do something here about the jobs situation, well, other things are going to have to be done.
I guess it was a strange choice of words when I said camps in the title, but maybe it was the best word as it got people thinking about what could be coming down the pike.

Borders protected? You mean like the Mexican border where there is a war going on and cheap labor is coming across taking "jobs Americans want do" because they deflated the costs so much that it takes 5 of them living together to make ends meet, where a person could support themselves on it in the past?
Their not protecting any borders whatsoever, but protecting their interests aboard in other nations, for the global games of which is not American borders.
If it is about patriotism and America first, then bring the troops back home and station them on AMERICAN borders, not the pseudo borders in other nations for the great global financial empire.
In case you missed it, these people don't give a ** about America and its homeland or its protection, and have no loyalty to it, only so much as they can draw wealth from it or abroad.
I notice that the Tiawenese born ceo does not offer to take a paycut, and I bet he would not agree to having his pay cut to match those of the average CEO in other countries which much lower.
Also, in their benevolent nature, I have yet to see one pressure China for global pollution controls or regulations to help these people in China. Might make a dent in their pocket book.
The question that should be asked of future politicians in this country, is, Are you a globalist where America does not come first, or, Are you for America first?
They should but are not protecting our Mexican border, they are monitoring it to let in illegal drugs along with the illegal aliens, they need to make sure our entire law enforcement system stays in business via drugs going to the addicts, etc. The jail employees let the drugs in jails. Quite an evil game here. Calderon threatened to legalize all drugs, I hope he does. Former head of border and customs, Robert Bonner said it would be easy to self deport about half of illegals overnight by completing the fence, crack down on all employers and restrict benefits. Our troops should be on borders but as with Bush that was temporary.
Your last paragraph question is absolutely brilliant, no better question could be asked of future candidates. Last election in tv debates, Ron Paul mentioned North American Union and was called a conspiracy theorist and he also said that Obama was a corporate globalist; this is what started my researching. Paul is one of only 3 or so who don't belong to the Foreign relations committee.

Unemployment compensation should go on as long as a person is not being hired by an employer; it could even be considered a market based metric. In the mean time, a person could go to school and become more competitive, even if it requires a degree or two.
