I knew that the person was a Muslim within an hour of the incident. The name wasn't released immediately, however.
Ah yes.....but many of the same media outlets that jumped to conclusions about the AZ Shooter's motives urged caution when it came to a Muslim shooter.

There lies the rub.
Heck, we live in a country where people are quick to blame a religion and all of its followers, if someone commits a crime, as long as it isn't their religion (of course).
As for the media, it presents what people want to hear.

Ah yes I remember when we were urged to be patient and not jump to conclusions about Fort Hood. Yet as soon as the media found it was a "gringo" who committed this tragedy in Arizona they were awful quick to start trying to link Jared Loughner to many a number of things. The Tea Party/Right Wing movements, white supermacism, American Renaissance, antisemitism, etc. All of them turning out to be patently FALSE. Where was the patience this time?
The term "Gringo", I understand, is a racially derogatory Mexican term for whites.
So, hey, Daisy, if we are "Gringos", then YOU are a (insert racially derrogatory term of your choice). My own choice starts with a w and ends with a k.
Just another example of how blatantly racist the liberal media really is. Didn't NPR fire Juan Williams for exercising his right to free speech on another TV show? And yet somehow racists like Hernandez are allowed to print their ignorance on NPR's pages? Therefore, NPR condones such racist attitudes as hers.
Every day we see proof of offensive liberal racism and still, somehow, the mainstream media has managed to convince the great unwashed sheep masses that it's conservatives/Christians/TeaParty/whitemales who are the real racists.

This post was selected because it is such an effective manifestation of the collective sentiments of many individuals here.
The term "gringo" is a word used in Latin, mainly Latin American, countries that is derived from the word "griego" (meaning "Greek"), and refers to foreigners, typically U.S. citizens. It is not "racially derogatory," since Latin American countries are all culturally European and in some cases racially European, though Mexico and Central American countries are predominantly racially Indian.
"Mexicans" are not a racial group comparable to "whites," but a national group comparable to Canadians. "Mexicans" therefore include people of all races, including whites (typically near the upper echelons of the political and business elite, actually), and essentially all Mexicans are part-white because of the nature of colonization of that country.
As for Daniel Hernandez, he looked like a Tohono O'odham Indian to me. While they are "Hispanicized" as a result of being Southwestern Indians (i.e. "former Mexicans"), they have always regarded themselves as separate and independent, were never detribalized, and retain a distinct identity, and thus would generally not regard themselves as "Latino."
