If Europe, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Russia, China, and even Turkey can get HSR right why do people claim the US is so incapable it cannot?

I neither assumed nor said any such thing. In addition to inane comparisons, now you are now injecting dishonesty.

You....have....LOST.
LOL. Okay.

Good point the private sector and public interest are on opposite teams. If all the right wing whiners about socialism would just stop using "socialist" public services like roads, bridges, water, sewage, police, fire dept, police, garbage, snow removal and return their social security and medicare benefits and stop giving blank checks to the socialist military we'd be in great shape. HSR might be worth it just in terms of energy efficiency and reducing our dependence on foreign oil. Personally I think we should start with making regular speed rail more efficient but as long as they're spending it here building and fixing things instead of over there killing and destroying things I'm for it.

It's Easy Being Green: Rail Transport Picks Up Speed

a combination of reduced carbon emissions, congestion, and traffic-related deaths will provide an extra $21.63 million worth of benefits a year from HSR as well as the necessary commuting infrastructure for all Americans to lead sustainable lives.

Why don't we put a tax of xxx amount per mile on Amtrack ticket prices? The revenue could be used to fund the expansion of the system...and perhaps even HSR.

The same could be said about Roads? Large Scale Projects should be funded by PPP's...

If the money collected from highway users was spend on, say...highways, maybe we wouldn't have to use "stimulus" funds to keep them up.

What are the actual operating costs of HSR, and what would ticket fees have to be to make it a break-even proposition? It shouldn't be that hard to calcluate that. If HSR can not operate at a cost user's are willing to bear, it should be DOA. Past mass transit projects have been money pits that non-users end up supporting. Enough of that!
