Without welfare eventually our ghettos would turn into nice safe communities.Low income women would no longer pick bad boys and thugs to have illegitimate children with and then go on welfare. The consequences would be too dire. Instead low income women would choose decent, family oriented gentlemen. Marriage would make a comeback. Crime and all social problems would drastically decline as children would be raised in a loving two parent home with a positive male role model.
. Basically all the men that ghetto women today think are too nice, the ones with zero thug appeal are the exact men who make the best husbands and fathers. These men are the cornerstone of Western civilizaton. Without welfare they would be in demand, not the gang memeber,crack addict, criminal, or as some ghetto women say "soldier". These are the worst males who have ever lived on this earth and without welfare women would fear and hate the thugs not make babies with them. Eventually ghetto areas would be decent, like they were before LBJs Great Society and War on Poverty ruined everything.
Hard work pays off and anyone who lives in one can WORK themselves out of that situation if they are willing to put out the effort.
You are absolutely right, as long as they don't have to deal with racism, crooked businessmen, crooked cops, corrupt politicians, inadequated education, low wages, exploitation by unions and or management I guess you can get out of the "hood"
After reading some of these post ....whew! some folks are pretty high and mighty on themselves. People who are in the situations that they are in are there not just because of the "handouts from social programs" but from the lack of knowledge on how to manage their money properly. There other factors that also lead up to that also, such as inadequate education (both from the school system and from home), racism (most whites have had a 200 year head start on the accumulation of wealth) also some projects were designed to keep certain people contained during the riots and segregated from whites before that. As far as the "if they don't get welfare their morals will change" crowd, who in the hell are you trying make believe that crap? Let me try to understand this, if I take away some of your benefits your morals will change? Sooo, if I took away some of the cooperate tax loopholes and some of the other benefits that the rich have, they will stop being so greedy and give back alot of the money that they stole? REALLY?
Did many of you know that the welfare system ENCOURAGED men not to live with their families? There are some people there because of medical, addiction, and mental health reasons also. It is really easy to point a finger at the downtrodden based on the topgraphical perception and not see what the underlying causes that brought it about in the first place.
Do (some) of you realize that a concentration of jews is also called a ghetto? Coming from Pittsburgh, the section of the city that has a dominate Jewish population is far from what many of you perceived as being a slum.
For those that say the less welfare = more crime, look at the quote above and the chart below. Do you see what I see?
I call BS on this. Yes, some people don't want to be on welfare, but for a big percentage of them, it is a way of life. I personally know too many people that are perfectly able, but unwilling to work. I have relatives for which getting their pregnant 15 year old daughter their first welfare card is seen as a rite of passage.
Also, here in PA, a family of four gets over $600 a month in food stamps. We feed our family of five, home cooked meals, for half of that amount. That, and the fact that they can use that money for chips, soda, and junk food may explain why there is so much obesity between welfare recipients.
.....But yet the well off religous right are trying to stop abortions, end family planning/education and cut off proper education for the poor, keep this stupid prohibition on the legalization of hemp and send a disportionate amount of men of color to prison. To top in all off there are some jackazzes trying to condem the first lady for speaking about the very same thing that you just posted
There is an interesting thread right now in the General U.S. forum that is comparing U.S. ghettos to third world ghettos, with the general consensus that third world ghettos make U.S. ghettos look like the middle class. But what if, as many conservatives desire, we eliminated or at least drastically reduced welfare programs and public housing, would our ghettos turn into third world slums? Would you be willing to live in a country like that for the sake of reducing spending?
No! They would not! Most would leave as there are many drug dealers that reside in this sort of housing.
Welfare should be a helping hand not a lifestyle! It needs to be restructured.

OK the Right is not trying to stop abortions so stop repeating the liberal uninformed talking points it shows narrow mindedness.............. Tunnel vision and being uninformed. Not wanting tax payer money to pay for abortions is not the same thing.
For the people in the slums, It takes money also to start a business, and 58 days or even 100 does not matter if you have no money to start with.
Yes, but even people WITH money will not want to start a business in Mexico because of the difficulties in doing so. As a result, there are very few new jobs to pull people out of poverty.
