If you are laughing now, and were laughing then, you probably aren't paying federal income taxes. The current share of the debt per taxpayer is $129,000.00 U.S. National Debt Clock : Real Time
Debt happen not only when spending rises, but also when incomes fall. Worse, when BOTH happen at the same time. Worried about the problem? Look both ways, unless you want to be dishonest with yourself and the worry is nothing more than crocodile tears to push for personal agenda.
We have a revenue problem, not a spending problem.
Revenues, due to the slump, have dropped much more than spending has increased.
When, of course, the cause of the bigger debt is from the 2001 and 2004 tax-cuts:
If Republicans were so concerned with deficits, why were they so insistent that the Bush tax-cuts get extended? They just make a bag situation worse:
This is ridiculous. Revenues are down b/c unemployment is up, not b/c they extended the tax cuts. As every household and business knows, when revenue is down, you cut spending. That's how it works. Why doesn't that concept apply to the federal gov't? The solution is NOT to raise taxes and ask for more money from people who are now making less.
Yea...i want him to name the trillions. And i want him to make sure that a nice proportion of it comes out of his district. You know...like those aircraft engines that no one wants.
Until then, he's peeing down everyones leg and claiming that it's raining.
Since when has government ever used our tax dollars wisely?
What a stupid question.
The Federal Highway System
The Hoover Dam
The Louisiana Purchase
"Seward's Folly", or the Purchase of Alaska
The Transcontinental Railroad
Entering WWII and participating in the Liberation
Financing Ground-Breaking Medical Research
The Federal Aviation Administration
NASA
Just to name a very small handful.
This notion that the federal government is worthless or useless is not only absurd on its face, but it's dangerous to the future health and strength of our nation.
As for Boehner, he's a schm***. His ridiculous House members already passed an increase in the Debt Ceiling in their obnoxious 2012 Budget. And said Budget did not contain trillions of dollars in cuts without the complete destruction of Medicare and Medicaid; an issue which they've already conceded on.

The government can be a force for good, when it sticks strictly to its enumerated powers set forth in Article I, Sect 8, USC.
The problem is that so much more of our budget is for other things, outside it's statement of Authority (Article !, Section 8, USC), such as all forms of Federal Welfare, funding of causes such as art, reproduction, retirement (Soc Sec, Medicare etc).

From what I see, the A/C engines are a huge boondogle. I agree, it's waste, and should be ended.
