I mean it's your choice and all, but dude, seriously why not do something to put a stop to the BS in this country instead of just leaving? Don't be the status quo, and vote for someone just because they have a D or an R in front of their name, or pull the "I'm going to vote for the lesser of two evils" crap! I don't know about you, but this country was my birth place, and I ain't leaving! At least not without a fight, or a voice!

I say that with all sincerity.

It's tough to want to 'make anything' of your self and make serous money there, as the taxes are just ridiculous. GST and all the other VATs too for anything imported from even the US.

And since everyone goes to school for free, everyone has a masters, and if you don't, you are stuck flipping burgers with your worthless bachelors.

Only 1 person from canada made the top 100.

That's a good point, although maybe not the way you think. Being mediocre and modest is the key to success. Same with Germany, by the way, the overwhelming bulk of Germans are mediocre, having studied at mediocre universities, or not at all for that matter.
Having extremes is more of a problem than a solution. Elites mean nothing if at the same time you have masses of sub-mediocre people.
That is why egalitarian societies work best in the long run.

But they are are still in America and they are plagued with the same issues as the rest of the country. Minnesota is the closest one in terms of similarity but its infrastructure is crumbling like the rest of America... remember the collapsed bridge? Maybe this is what you get when you spend all your money on "defense".

Speaking of infrastructure, there's no divided highway between Vancouver BC and
the US border. That's hardly a sign of an advanced country.

Whew! Canadian perspective here: we're slightly behind you in everything from fashion to philosophy, but, make no mistake; as goes the U.S., so goes Canada!

Walmarts are springing up like dandelions with Target now moving in having bought out the big Zeller's chain up here last year.

Universal health care works and by the large works well. Major illnesses are not a problem but attracting and keeping doctors relies very heavily on finding doctors who feel like the O/P that bringing up a family would be better here than anywhere else. The crunch is coming though with our health care system reaching that point that hard choices will have to be made to suspend spending in more frivalous areas to "court votes' and focus instead on new infrastructure and inticements for medical professionals.

Military spending has now resumed a major portion of our budget with this gov't realizing the need to sustain a viable military and having to recoup lost ground from years of Liberal intransigence of believing the cold war to be someone else's problem and "who would dare mess with us with those yanks ready to bust a nut over nukes in Cuba".

History has shown our military to be very capable in all global conflicts up to the 60's, with us punching above our weight for our population but after that - - sad! We are now regaining some 'pride' points with our involvement in Afghanistan and over 250 flight missions into Libya. This may not continue as the Canadian will to get involved and suffer casualties is dwindling due to our having resumed our military history by getting involved in the worst case scenario of Afghanistan; an absolute ****hole of a country that cares nothing for the democratic process with no appreciation for foreign lives lost arbitrating their stupid and retarded tribal conflicts.

Economy is good because our banks have stricter rules to play by with little or no influence possible by the likes of a Barney Franks to make affordable mortgages to those who should not be buying homes but rather food for their kids.

Ability to excell through hard work as being compared to one poster's reference to 'mediocre' is thoroughly possible but not necessarily as important as our lifestyle with middle upper income being quite fine thank you. Granted, our globalization is behind the curve of your vastly greater population but we are catching on fast. You have to put it in the context that we don't wave a flag from every front porch and tend to keep our successes quieter.

We also could have been far sneakier and declared war on you (maybe even burnt your white House again), then built a utopia completely funded by your proven willingness to pay reparations to countries you've won wars with.

Politics: I would vote for the guy who DOESN"T declare himself to be religious as I would then have a reasonable assurance he hasn't been lying to get my vote when he then runs off to bomb some country or other. That religious aspect makes Canadians nervous as those who claim it as a badge of honour are usually the least religious of the bunch. The truly religious don't proclaim it from the rooftops and we should be very wary of those who do!

Fiscal restraint got the vote up here last time and this time as the economic slide you endured and are still enduring down there has scared the pants off us and the two other major parties were running on platforms of a "chicken in every pot". Daycare for every neighbourhood, more money for pensioners, etc.. Most Canadians know full well where money promised by governments originates and consider this carefully when the promises start flowing like summer wine.

We are allowed to own guns and many do, but the restrictions are based on "our need to have handguns for our self defence is just not manifest" so sporting weapons rule the majority of ownership criteria. A gun in every glove box is not needed nor wanted. Our vast frontiere was policed by one police force, the NWMP for generations of cross country settlement and while we had our "mad trappers" they were generally limited in number and punished severely. I believe your countries western settlement setting the tone had an impact up here in that folks wanting to move west knew beforehand that violence and criminal endevour was a general waste of time with the end as witnessed below the border not justifying the sacrifice.

Summation; our societies have far more similarities than differences and ours will duplicate yours in an ever increasing rate of speed as our corporations and their ideals change to emmulate yours in the global competition economy.

That is the problem with America. You are either rich and live in luxury or poor and live in squalor. There is hardly any middle ground... the middle class is fast disappearing. Countries like Canada and Germany seem to have strike the right balance. There is no need bragging about the number of billionaires or Fortune 500 corporations we have in America when a large number of people are going to to their beds hungry every night. I agree that more egalitarian societies work best in the long run.

If it happens it will very likely be through annexation rather than a general vote as the desire is just not there on the part of our 'multicultural society' (tongue in cheek here). As time and tides roll on the reality will likely be that the two countries will become so similar that a unifying name or removal of border won't be needed in any case as the free movement of goods and services will outstrip the security obsession.

Dear lovers of Canada, Norway, Australia, Sweden, etc... if you so strongly dislike the United States and think all of these other countries are better, why don't you just MOVE to these countries you're so deeply in love with? Okay? Our country would be A LOT better off without you haters. Thank you.

Sincerely, 90sman.
