I made a recent visit to Canada and it basically lived up to all my expectations. The environment is clean and quiet and it has a more laid back feel than America. The people are very social and friendly and you just don't sense the tension in the air that is characteristic of life in America.
Maybe you need to get out of NY. The rest of the country isn't experiencing the things you listed. Most of us are very social and friendly.
I would never call never Canada or Mexico the 51 state or america lite(never heard of those before), I call them the "other North Americas" since they are connected to us, as far as Canadians hating Americans most countries treat their immigrants as second class citizens and I could never tell Canada how to govern, you guys have Quebec for that, LoL.
Most American's don't hate Mexicans or Canadians either, everwhere you go there are good people and bad people and no one can speak for all of them. Grass is never always greener on the other side and someone is always looking for someone else to blame all their problems on.

Trust me I have traveled far and wide in America. Although some parts of the country are definitely more friendly, there still seems to be some kind of tension between the races no matter wherever you go in America. I didn't see that in Canada.
Black and white people seem to get along just fine here. I don't see any of the "racial tension" that you speak of...
Oh yeah... ever heard of the "white-flight" phenomenon. I would suggest you do some research.
