That's the most likely reason. We have a legacy of slavery and Jim Crow and they don't. I lived across the bridge from Canada for many years and it's much different up there.

I was just in Canada; no normal Canadian hates Americans just like no normal main stream American would hate Canadians. They were all very nice to us and my friends and I had a few good talks with Canadians about life here in the States and there.
I thought you were an educator? Slavery led to Jim Crow. There are still people posting on the perils of a "darker America". Slavery served as really tainting race relations for generations. It was only in my father's generation that Jim Crow ended. He was already in college at that time. Many people were alive during Jim Crow...some sentiment of Blacks being inferior still persists...that legacy can be traced back to slavery.

So comparatively speaking...slavery was not as pervasive in the national psyche.
Not to mention that slavery ended in 1830 and Canada was the destination for the underground railroad.
Canada's pretty great, full disclaimer: I have Canadian citizenship haha. Good folks up there, I like their drinking age but it's a bit too nippy for me.

Agreed there. Why is it racial dramatist are always stirring up questions about racism?
It would be nice to not have to discuss a topic like this, but when you see thread after thread relating to the issue, one has to offer a critical analysis of why this is so in America. As a society, if we don't step back and examine ourselves and our actions, we'll never move forward.
Trust me I have traveled far and wide in America. Although some parts of the country are definitely more friendly, there still seems to be some kind of tension between the races no matter wherever you go in America. I didn't see that in Canada.
I have to agree. There seemed to be a sense of genuine fellow feeling transcendent of race in Canada that I rarely experience here in the States. Even the police were surprisingly cordial. Whether I was taking a stroll through an upscale neighborhood, taking to the city streets after dark, shopping or dancing at a night club, I never once really even felt like I had a racial identity during my time there.
